Ooo. Hong Kong over the top greatness that is 'Hard Boiled'.
Cop tells police chief "You full of crap! There's the john! Go and use it!"
ROFLCOPTER!
And the roughly 5000 people that get shot or blown to bits.
and the little origami cranes that the one hitman agent makes for his victims.

Hard Boiled and The Killer are the definitive CYF movies. Not entirely sure if they qualify as underrated since fans of the genre know they're great. If you go by US reception to quantify how they're "rated" then virtually any foreign film would qualify

I loved the original Clerks a lot, but I also liked the second one, but I think I am an anomaly, because you are right, most people I've talked to liked one or the other, not both.

I agree with you on BR, but that does not change the fact that what you stated never happened, so it is still underrated. I actually would be quite interested to see someone remake it, though I'm sure they would totally botch it as is typically the case.

The Joe Versus the Volcano recommendations made me remember The Man With One Red Shoe which was panned quite heartily and to this day is looked down upon as a bad movie, but which I happened to find quite funny. Now, I have not watched it in years, so it may feel quite dated now, but I definitely think it was underrated, so I'm going to add it. This is Big and Splash era Hanks, which I always liked.

Ah, then you might enjoy one of my favorite old Hanks films, 'Volunteers'. John Candy in classic mode, lots of silly makeup and strange characters. It's fun if you're not expecting too much.
Hmmm, I thought 28 Days Later was horrible. It was pretty good for the first 45 minutes, then it went downhill fast and ended up being incredibly bad, IMO. I thought 28 Weeks Later was 10 times better. I only gave it a chance because I heard everyone saying it was better than the first.Originally posted by: scrawnypaleguy
Everybody said 28 Weeks Later wasn't as good as the first movie, but I was completely blown away when I saw it in theaters. There were parts which were so intense that I forgot to breathe.

Anything over zero stars would make Joe vs. the Volcano highly OVERrated. It was, quite simply, the worst movie that has ever been made.
Blade Runner is one of my top 10 favorites of all time, but I wouldn't call it underrated. It seems to be pretty highly rated from what I've seen.

Speaking of Ed Norton, Down in the Valley is prolly underrated and not well known either.

One of my favorite movies is LA Story with Steve Martin. Yet, when I ask, nobody's ever seen it.

I would say Munich is definitely underrated.
I'm not so sure I would agree. I liked the movie quite a bit, but it made over $130 million worldwide and seemed to be quite highly regarded and was nominated for best picture and director; not sure I can say it is underrated.
