and the little origami cranes that the one hitman agent makes for his victims.

Hard Boiled and The Killer are the definitive CYF movies. Not entirely sure if they qualify as underrated since fans of the genre know they're great. If you go by US reception to quantify how they're "rated" then virtually any foreign film would qualify

Aye, very true. For the purposes of this list though, I think they would be added based on the fact they may not be as well known in N.A.. They will most likely end up getting separated into a different section though.

That's also what I've seen as well. I might watch the original Clerks again as it was a long time ago when I watched it.

I agree with you on BR, but that does not change the fact that what you stated never happened, so it is still underrated. I actually would be quite interested to see someone remake it, though I'm sure they would totally botch it as is typically the case.

I don't think the reason why I can consider it is that it never really received a "release" in the US. It was imported but just kind of put out there. Maybe if it was in theaters and didn't do well because it was shunned then I could see it as overrated.

The Joe Versus the Volcano recommendations made me remember The Man With One Red Shoe which was panned quite heartily and to this day is looked down upon as a bad movie, but which I happened to find quite funny. Now, I have not watched it in years, so it may feel quite dated now, but I definitely think it was underrated, so I'm going to add it. This is Big and Splash era Hanks, which I always liked.

Ah, then you might enjoy one of my favorite old Hanks films, 'Volunteers'. John Candy in classic mode, lots of silly makeup and strange characters. It's fun if you're not expecting too much.

Love x10 for The Spanish Prisoner; great movie. Never heard of the others, but Rare Birds and Ridicule look interesting and I would watch Crazy People if only to see Dudley Moore, that guys always cracked me up.

Oh yeah, totally awesome. I'd forgotten about it.

Hmmm, I thought 28 Days Later was horrible. It was pretty good for the first 45 minutes, then it went downhill fast and ended up being incredibly bad, IMO. I thought 28 Weeks Later was 10 times better. I only gave it a chance because I heard everyone saying it was better than the first.

Anything over zero stars would make Joe vs. the Volcano highly OVERrated. It was, quite simply, the worst movie that has ever been made.

Blade Runner is one of my top 10 favorites of all time, but I wouldn't call it underrated. It seems to be pretty highly rated from what I've seen.

Blade runner is very highly rated indeed.

28 Days Later was fantastic, I loved it. Another zombie movie I liked was the remake of Dawn of the Dead; great flick.

<--- huge zombie movie guy (horror in general actually)

Added the first two, thanks, they look good.

Not sure Primal Fear would be considered underrated, it is regarded by most to be a brilliant movie and is highlighted by Ed Norton's breakout performance. Requires further review.

Awesome. Good old Rick Moranis, whatever happened to that guy?

Definitely added.

I'll second Cube, excellent sci-fi/psychological thriller with no name actors and presumably a pretty tiny budget. The sequels are awful though, so don't watch them.

One of my favorite movies is LA Story with Steve Martin. Yet, when I ask, nobody's ever seen it.

Ah, since you're a fellow zombie-movie fan, I submit the first movie that I know of with FAST zombies :

Return of the Living Dead (1985).

In the category of 'so bad it's AWESOME!'. Serious gaffes make it into the final cut, and who can forget when the zombies figure out that they can eat cops and paramedics and then get on the radio and say : "send .. more .. cops" .. "send .. more .. paramedics..."

I would say Munich is definitely underrated.

I'm not so sure I would agree. I liked the movie quite a bit, but it made over $130 million worldwide and seemed to be quite highly regarded and was nominated for best picture and director; not sure I can say it is underrated.

KT

Did it really? I had no idea. I just labeled it as underrated because most people I know hadn't even heard of it much less seen it. It just didn't seem to get a lot of buzz, though I knew it was critically acclaimed.

I don't consider Black Hawk Down underrated because almost everyone I know has seen and loved that movie. I guess it's the difference of something being critically underrated or in terms of popularity.

How about Fletch? That series always cracks me up.
