MetalGear Rising. I think the game got kinda shoveled off to the side because of the gameplay using the MetalGear name.

Thief 3. Not much love for what I consider to be the best in the series.

I'm playing though Thief 3 right now. Bought the game sometime in either 04/05, so I'm playing using the original CD. Also using the "Sneaky Upgrade" 1.1.5 patch. It doesn't change the content of the game. It allows for widescreen support. The game is OK. The AI is pretty lousy by todays standards.

I can't get enough of this game. I have 873875610735070913613 hours into it, over and over and over trying to build a factory city that automates everything in just the right way with leftover products for all items created.

It's like crack. It's like heroine. It's like meth. I can't not play this game.

You start with a stone furnace and a fuel-burning extractor and enough raw materials to build a hand tool. Your objective is to build and upgrade until everything is built and upgraded and everything that you need built is being built by automated factories with all the appropriate raw materials being fed into them fast enough to keep them working...

...all while surviving the assault of BAD GUYS! D:

Wow thanks for bringing this game up, never heard of it but it looks great, been watching some videos of it on youtube. Going to purchase it now.

Both DKS and King arthur a role playing game are fantastic; but be aware that King Arthur has some very annoying bugs (mostly crashes). I hear the follow up game (king arthur ii sucks but haven't played it). The game was written by the folks who are now working on van hesling (sp) and deathtrap.

In this thread: actually popular games.

Risk of Rain is pretty awesome.

hmm... those bugs must have been fixed later as I didn't experience any bugs that I remember in my playthrough.

Super Hexagon was the most frustrating game ever, but when I finished it I felt like I'd just played one of the best games ever. So simple yet so addicting...

I don't know if it is unknown or not, but I never see people talking about Tales of Maj'Eyal. I have somewhere around 500 hours put into that game over the past year and a half, and there was just a major expansion released recently that I haven't even started yet.

Started playing this after seeing this post and it's so good. Really deep tactical rpg. Each class has as many abilities as in WoW before they simplified the game.

Beat it on normal with an archmage after about 50-60 hours (definitely not on first try), then beat it on nightmare with a doombringer (early game was difficult but got fairly overpowered later on). Trying insane with a doombringer and the early game is pretty darn difficult. Already got like 110 hours on this game in like 2 weeks.

darkest dungeon does look pretty cool but it's still early access and I don't want to buy any more early access games.

I just bought it, it is a lot of fun.

Interestingly enough, not a single thing about it so far seemed incomplete, admittedly I've only played for a couple hours.

The game really was badly consolized when it came out. There's are some .ini tweaks that reduce the over-sized HUD (one of the major gripes) plus a texture pack too. In fact Thief modders have gone to the extent of removing all the "blue fog" transitions and mini-hub loading zones by rebuilding the entire world with Thief Gold as single piece missions (like the originals). It works though was a little buggy when I tried it last.

I don't know if it is underrated, but Divinity Original Sin is the best RPG I have ever played, and I've played a lot of RPGs.

Well it's literally incomplete, as in there are parts that are not in the game yet, including, the 'Darkest Dungeon'. Other than that, I think the devs are still trying to figure out how they want the game to be. The original pitch was that the game was going to be brutal, but as it is now (after you've played for a few hours and learn the basic strategy) you can finish all non-boss dungeons without a death. Do they want to alienate those who made it succeed in kickstarter and wanted a more challenging experience? or alienate those who came later and think it's an RPG and not a rogue-like game? Maybe implement two difficulty settings? Only time will tell, it's still 5 or 6 more months of Early Access.

I'm enjoying it a lot (darkest dungeon). And the initial start is brutal. People dropping left and right. But as there isn't really any consequence to hero deaths once you get your buildings leveled and a few synergistic heroes with armor and skills leveled it gets way easier.

My trick with darkest dungeon is to just fire whoever is starting to get too stressed or has too many negative quirks.

After a while, you start gathering some money and some resources, you can upgrade your buildings and you can start using the chapel and the sanitarium and start leveling people up consistently and upgrading their stuff.

After 100 weeks of gameplay, I have 8 level 6 characters and every other character is level 3 and up. My roster is full at 20 characters, two of each class.

AND the game is still lots of fun, because the dungeon crawling is excellent and fun!

I can't wait for more content though, but I'll keep playing it for a while yet.

Yeah, I noticed that later once I had put more time into the game. At first I thought those areas were unlocked later or something, but I see that they aren't actually in the game at all.

I also have noticed the other issues you mention. Given certain strategies, the game isn't all that hard at all. There are also some weird annoyances, such as the level-gating system that sometimes forces you to create a new set of adventurers just to kill a boss because your main group is too strong to go into the low level areas.

Still, its a fun game. I think with a few tweaks the "issues" can be fixed, and I think it's already entertained me far more than many games which cost twice as much, so no serious complaints from me.

I've been playing towerfall ascension with my fiancee and her little brother for a while. I love that game so much.

Samurai Gunn is a great indie brawler, too.

Bombing bastards is a nice bomberman clone.

The Kohan Games (steam) If you like the CoH or Warhammer RTS style, this is the one they copied from. Been preaching the praises of this one for years, but maybe Im the only one who likes it.

You aren't! Very nice game, dated now but the gameplay is still solid. Pace is slower until you learn the ropes and then actually pretty quick when you have to consider positioning, stamina etc.

Yeah, this. Darkest Dungeon is frigging awesome, one of the best atmospheres in any game i've played. I would have loved to have been part of developing it. I'm 15 hours in and on my second play through. The first ended at week 16 after about 10 failures in a row. The second time around i'm actually paying attention to the quirks, resistances and abilities a lot more rather than trying to bull my way through it. I have a couple of veterans now and am thinking about taking on the necromancer soon...
