Undoing a save in Word

One of my coworkers accidentally saved the wrong document in Word after cutting and pasting information into another document. Is there a way to revert back to an old save or any software that can do it.

Did you have "always create backup copy" checked in Word options?

If it's DOC format you might be able to open it up in a hex editor or even notepad, it's likely the cut out text is still in there. I'm not familiar with the DOCX format but that should be even eiser to poke into.

Its not me, its for a coworker. I believe he was using Office 2003 and WinXP. I'll have to ask if the "always create backup copy" option was enable but I'm guessing that if its not on by default then it was not.

Was the file coming from a server or just their computer?

If the file is never closed, you should be able to undo the changes until you get back to the pre-save/paste moment. If the file has been closed, you really don't have much recourse.
