You are right. It was a wild-assed guess. Is it supposed to make anybody feel any better that the gov is wild-assed guessing and then blowing money?Originally posted by: Lemon law
Everyone seems to be missing the point, the last time we were in a similar situation, when Hoover was running things and did basically nothing to arrest the slide, unemployment went up rapidly and quickly hit 25%.
Skoorb's graph is just a wild guess and no one knows where unemployment would be now if Obama and congress had not taken the steps they did. But I certainly feel unemployment would be much higher if he did not.
Quite possibly, but if the government had no idea where it was going to end up anyway and happened to blindly throw a dart and perhaps it actually was close to the bullzeye, it's not confidence-inspiring.Most economist agree that without the recovery plan, the "actual" part would be a hell of a lot worse.

You guys should all be thrilled.

Is that kind of like Bush's assertion that without invading Iraq the "actual" terrorist attacks would have been worse?
Keep trying to prove a negative after the fact, fanboy.

Oh, the sweet smell of desperation.
The only desperation I smell is right-wingers trying to smear Obama with anything they have. Republicans have so screwed the economy that unemployment is as bad as when their hero Ronnie was in charge. Or are you claiming that the high unemployment is Obama's fault?
Well they are putting the blame on Obama as they know this is the blowback from Bush, they are just complaining that Obama didn't magically fix it.Originally posted by: jonks
Damn obama for not stopping this. He's had 5 months already, come on! What does he want more time or something? I'll bet the sick bastard is enjoying this knowing he gets paid for the next 4 years no matter how bad he screws up. Thank god we have educated intelligent posters on AT to put the blame where it belongs!

Who knows how bad it would have been without them...or not. I've yet to see see any stats showing that it would be the same, better or worse without the bailouts. I do know that we haven't gone into an Economic Depression yet which is what the Bailouts were intended to prevent.Originally posted by: OCguy

Im claiming that Obama's promises with his corporate bailouts are not coming to fruition, and he is going to pay for it in the polls.
There isnt much the leftie parrot squad is going to be able to do to stop it.
Did he actually? He predicted it would help and maybe it has by preventing things from being even worse.Originally posted by: OCguy

The problem is Obama claimed he could magically fix it with mortgaging our future even more.

Well we can all play that game, as someone pointed out earlier in the thread.
Who is to say Saddam wouldnt have acquired Nukes 10 years later and shipped one to a US port?
The American people, as dim as some are, aren't going to buy the "what if" crap.

Without stimulus money, states would be cutting a lot more jobs to balance budgets, just for starters.
Bush's assertions were pulled out of his butt. This is real.

Fixed and you are correct, like Obama, Reagan wasn't responsible for the high unemployment .Originally posted by: shiner

Dealing with the mess that the original Carter and Gerald Ford had left him.
Not that it has anything to do with the current situation, but if you are going to go back in time to blame Presidents at least remember that Reagan was cleaning up a mess that Carter left behind. Much as Obama is attempting to clean up a mess that Clinton and W. left him.
