Ok, so to give a little backstory, I own a UNICOMP buckling spring keyboard (uses USB), and it has always had problems where it's a bit of a crapshoot whether it gets turned on/recognized at POST. It seems like when you restart, the keyboard doesn't pick up, but when you fully power down, then power up, it gets turned on before hitting windows.
Now, however, it has started dropping in games sometimes. It happens rarely in DotA2 (maybe once every 3-4 games), and when it occurs the whole computer hangs, the game grinds to a halt, then the keyboard re-connects and everything's normal again. Also, when the keyboard drops, there is a "boop" noise that happens, which sounds like an error noise in the BIOS, like if you hit a random key in the options menu.
When it gets really weird, and what got me to make this post, is that I snapped up Battlefield4 at 75% off, and the keyboard straight up goes into a loop of disconnecting/re-connecting whenever the game is put into fullscreen mode. If I stay in windowed, the keyboard works.
My theory is that it has something to do with system load, as the drops in Dota2 almost always happen in teamfights, and BF4 is pretty much the most demanding game I have at this point. No idea if this is close, though (and when CPU is at 100% load in prime95 the keyboard works fine). Also definitely could be a motherboard thing, but I'm not sure why all my other USB ports would work fine and just the keyboard have problems. I've tried using 2.0 vs. 3.0 ports, and toggling legacy USB support on/off in the BIOS.
edit: just thought of another weird-ass symptom; I recently bought a USB 3.0 hub to clean up my desk a little bit, and my mouse/USB mic work fine on it, but if I plug the keyboard into it, it does the endless disconnect/re-connect routine like in BF4.
