Well, mine will not connect to Comcast. The LAN is fine but status shows gateway and dns is all 0's. It can not get out the WAN. Link is OK. I tried configuring a Host Name that Comcast gave me and it will not let me use dhcp auto and yet give it a name. My smc routter works fine. Not sure what I need down here. I did not clone any mac address.

EDIT...UPDATE.

I got it running but I had to put in my ip, gateway, dns, etc. Why won't dhcp on the WAN seem to work?

In Seattle at least, you don't have to do anything with your computer or router but set them to DHCP auto IP. This has worked with my old RCA cable modem, an old 3COM cable modem and two of the latest Motorola, at four different locations. I just got the Uniden today plugged it in to my modem, plugged into my computer and it worked. I didn't even have to reboot my computer or reset the NIC. I bought a Uniden PCW200 802.11b PCI desktop card a few weeks ago from outpost.com and it's been working like a champ since I got it. The only thing I had to do was change the channel setting on my router and I havn't gotten a disconnect or bad signal since...

I picked up a Uniden WAP (WNP1000) for 3 bucks a few weeks ago from Outpost and it's been outperforming my old Linksys in connection strength and reliability. And it looks pretty cool as well. I fully recommend them.

Not sure what I am doing wrong but DHCP on the WAN side does not seem to work. The only way I can connect is to use manual IP. Any ideas?

If setting your WAN IP manually works, you should be good to go, as Comcast never changes your IP. Did you try resetting your cable modem?

Yes, I turned the modem off for 5 minutes! It is all working now but my SNC uses dhcp on the wan side just fine. I am a little worried that if Comcast does change my IP, I will not be able to find it. I have not cloned anything. I was going to add my computer name as I think I did have to do that on my SMC but UNIDEN has a strange setup. IF I have autodns enabled, it will NOT allow you to enter the name. The manual says otherwise. Do you have that as well?

Comcast never changes IP addresses. I wish they would change every so often, so my IP doesn't get tagged by the music industry and anyone else tracking these things, but they don't. If they do change it and your router doesn't work, you can always plug your computer directly into the cable modem and let it get the IP.

I think you should turn auto DHCP back for the router and reboot your cable modem. Have you updated the firmware to 1.08. Mine shipped with 1.02 firmware, which I updated. It took a couple of tries, but the second time it updated.

Yup...first thing I did was get 1.08. This is strange...all OK except WAN dhcp.

Still, I wonder if the problem is the Computer name that UNIDEN will not let me configure?

Well, I fixed it. The only thing I can think of is that the dhcp discovery is SLOW. It took a while after setting dhcp to reset everything and to have the router report the settings. My SMC was as fast as I could reboot and look.

All seems to be working OK now. I just need to see if it survives a boot...either System or router.
