I thought this was funny more than anything else, I'm sure all the bad publicity is making him regret his decision which I totally believe he has the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason, but when the manager came on camera his persona totally fit the tone of the kind of person that would kick a person out because they're a cop.
Lol that guy is soo screwed now. I'm betting multiple robberies within the next month or two.

"almost harkens to the days of segregation..."

LOL.

Private business is private business. LESS GOVERMENT, LESS TAXES!!!

The government should address this with every employee they have! This is an outrage!

Wow. That douchebag's going to lose some business off of this, at least. Oh, and I loved how he called homeless people "houseless people". Lefty nutjob.

If anything, he'll gain business. Portland is full of "lefty nutjobs", like me for example.

I feel bad for the Cop, he seemed like a nice guy, the kind of Officer you would want patrolling your neighborhood.

Poor guy is sure to be a target of police needing to fill their ticket quota to keep the stations funded in hard budget times. But times are hard and cities do need to draw extra blood to maintain regular services and pay salaries of city workers.

When I read the thread title the first thing I thought was that the owner of the shop threw the cop out for spending half the day eating donuts.

He did indeed, but then he's an Oregon liberal too. But he does look just like the terminator. I think that's what freaked the shop owner.

Who is this guy going to call if someone refuses to pay, decides to steal something or rob the place and its patrons? If criminals wanted to target a place for robberies they now know the perfect place to hit.

Edit: Hell this guy would be ripe for extortion by local organized criminal elements. Who is he gonna call? The cops? lolz

What should they did if 2 burglars came in and started beating the snot out of everyone in the business and robbing them?

If they came in and started beating everyone, that isn't Burglary.

I tend to agree, that was a dumb move for the manager.

Whatever you do DON'T double park near this place. Or park illegally either.

I wouldn't be surprised if the police respond to this incident via things like more tickets and just making life difficult for the guy.

So in one thread we have conservatives advocating businesses right to refuse to serve certain customers. And now we have the same conservatives lamenting a police officer getting kicked out of a coffee shop after the owner advocated those same rights, with some of you going giddy over the fact that the officer may abuse his power later on? Come on, I have no public opinion over this matter but you guys need to get your emotions in order.

EDIT: The opposite is true with some of the liberals here.

i agree that private business can refuse customers, but that does not mean they are not opening themselves up to ridicule. I think i would go and eat a big steak on the sidewalk in front of the place.
