finally put my old system back together

fx 8350 @stock

3x hd6870 (hd6870x2 + hd 6870) @ 939MHz, 1110MHz mem

not too shabby, i suppose, for 6870s, i think tey´re short on memory,
in the middle of the benchmark towards 2/3 i get real bad stuttering down to 10-15 fps for like 10 seconds and numbers drop
the rest of it plays around 40ish

cards run only at around 60% usage

i think i´m gonna get me a r9 290 for that system after christmas

Card is a reference GIGABYTE GV-R929XD5-4GD-B Radeon R9 290X tested in Umber Mode using the AMD Catalyst™ 13.11 Beta 9.2 Dvr. QNIX QX2510 Display running in Native 2560x1440p and 60Hz. Changing the Display to a 1920 x 1080 Res did nothing but make the Bench look of lessor quality.

OEM STK Bench was 2551 @ 1000Mhz's.

My best Bench was 2746 at 1125Mhz's with out any artifacts. It will do over 2750 at 1150Mhz's but there are signs of artifacts.

The Card benched 1698 at 1125Mhz in the native 2560x1440 res of my QNIX QX2510 display with out artifacts.

Increasing the vRam frequency did little but add artifacts. I do not know if this card has Hynix or Alpeda Ram.

The Card is not all that noisy as reported and I've yet to see the Cards Temp go over 85C in these Benches.

I'm going to play with the reference cooler a bit longer before I mount an Arctic Accelero Xtreme III on it.

Well I broke 2750 score with a 1135Mhz GPU and 1320Mhz vRam Clock giving me a consistent Artifact Free 2757 Score with CCC\Performance\AMD Overdrive configured as Follows, from top to Bottom: 12% - 13.5% - 5.6% - 90C - 100%.

One thing I had to do was run the Bench through once to let the card settle into its environment before I got consistent Benches with out artifacts. The fan, rather loud, ran at a constant 77%, GPU never went over 89C and Max vRam Temp was 67C.

I'm impressed with Elpdia vRam on this Gigabyte Reference R9 290X. I'm looking forward to mounting the Arctic Accelero Xtreme III on this card and would like a Voltage Tweaker ;o)

i7 2700k/ASUS P8Z68-V Pro Gen3/Corsair H110 AIO (running @ .996v/1600Mhz to 1.376v/4600Mhz 24/7 between 36 to 67C), 4 x's 4GB sticks of Samsung MV-3V4G3D-US DDR3 running at 1.34v/1866Mhz 9-9-9-24 1T with 4GB's assigned to a RAMDisk drive to handle Win7 64 Bit Sluff and negate writes to the SSD, Samsung 840 Pro 256 SSD, 2 x's WD5001AALS HDD's in Raid-0, 1 x's WD1002FAEX 1TB, ASUS DRW-24B1ST DVDRW, Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1250 PCIe, 2nd Intel NIC for Dual Networking, XFX 850W Pro Black Black Edition modular PSU, AMD Ref Gigabyte 1000Mhz R9 290X/Accelero Xtreme III, eVGA GTX 280 in reserve for Physic's-X support, Fractal Design ARC Midi R2 case, QX2510 Samsung PLS 2560x1440 res display at 120Hz.

TOTAL Investment on this Platform including 13% HST Tax Plus Shipping is approx $2,534.00 spent over a period of a year.

Aside from Mfgr's 10 to 15% price markup selling to the CDN Market the killer is the 13% HST Tax and cost of shipping in Canada. I pd $3000 for a 386-40 DX in 1994 - LOL.

GTX 780 - 1228/1675 (not sure why benchmark says GPU is at 1418 - I wish!)

Currently Pissed: How did you manage to get that ram up to 1500Mhz's (Hynix or Elpdia?)

What's your CCC profile as we got no voltage tweakers for these cards yet?

With a reference R9 290X I manage a 1175/1320 (Elpdia Ram) STK Voltage with the AMD Catalyst™ 13.11 Beta 9.2 Dvrs using the sulky AMD cooler but I've an Arctic Accelero Xtreme III on hand and waiting for a Voltage Tweaker.

NO doubt your under water ;o)

+100 mv to core +100 aux

On air, fan speed 75%. They will be under water very soon though.

And surprisingly enough, I know one card has Elpdia ram, I have not taken out one to test the other yet however. But when I seen the first had Elpdia ram, didn't really care to bother.

One card ASIC 68.4%

Other card 74.6%

In the 290 unlock to 290x thread I added link to how to check if they will unlock. Software only to see which will also show your memory type. Results look to be 100% accurate.

Info on how to see is here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1445030/is-your-r9-290-unlockable-find-out-here

yo face2face,
nice new 780 score, i wish i had waited to buy my first 770 for three weeks, or else i would have got one or two 780s myself (price in germany dropped from ca. 600€ to 450€ in one day, as soon as r9 290x was out. i could have seen it coming, but i didn´t think nvidia would just come out with the 780ti and make that their new 600€ card)
then again, one can always wait for better cards, 770 was/is a real good deal for high end nvidia card, so wtf
i´ll get a r9 290 after christmas for the real big resolutions for my amd setup instead (one with a decent cooler)

back on page 22 are my sli screenshots

Card is an AMD Reference GIGABYTE GV-R929XD5-4GD-B Radeon R9 290X.

Using MSI Afterburner 300b17 with +100mv after 1173-1500 I was seeing artifacts and clearly running out of voltage. Increasing the Elpdia Ram above above 1500 hurt the Bench but very solid at 1500Mhz

Seems to me, disregarding the Safe Zone, the Ref R9 290X could do with another 35mv's to make a solid 1200-1500 clock and possibly break a 3000 Score in Valley.

MSI Afterburner shames CCC AMD Overdrive OC'g software.

Guess I'm about done playing with the Reference Design Cooler and will be mounting the Arctic Accelero Xtreme III and see about obtaining another 35mv's.

1170 x 1500 Mhz's - PERFECT No Artifacts

1200 x 1500 Mhz's - Minor Artifacts (Could do with a tad more Voltage)

Apparently there's a +.132 to +.141mv boost using an ASUS R9290X-4GD5 BIOS and ASUS GPUTweak 2.4.9.2. Reports are 1265 Mhz GPU and 1600 Mhz Memory Clocks - Humm - Can't seem to find the ASUS R9290X-4GD5 BIOS firmware or flashing Utility Online but do we need it?

Thanks bud, I went ahead and added your SLI scores, which are very nice btw

Thanks Z15CAM for adding your screenshot, it's good to see some R9 290 series card competing.
