What is the default settings for these things usually for reference?

High w/ 4xAA at 1080p?

Gigabyte 7970 stock at 1ghz

Here it is at 1080P stock again. It only gave me ultra for some reason at 1080p and not extreme, go figure. If I did it full screen, I would get a black screen when I "print screen".

I'm going to have to call this - Valley 1.0 runs much better on Nvidia hardware. I've never seen a 50% difference in performance between my two cards in any other benchmark. Likewise, in my opinion, the new 3dMark runs better on AMD than Nvidia. That's why the two benchmarks should really just be used to compare within the same product family - they are very useful for checking that the stock and overclocked performance is in the appropriate range.

By the way, people should really just run the Valley ExtremeHD preset - it makes comparing things much easier.

GTX670@1084/6000 (reference clocks):

Something fishy going on with Nvidia vs AMD. Drivers need tweaking because a 670 should not leave 7950 in the dust like that.

Well something is fishy about my card specifically since a HD7870 OCed outperforms my HD7950 OCed...

unigine's oilrush game has the nvidia logo "how it's meant to be played" when you fire up the game :/
They likely have close relations with nvidia during the dev process.

Scores seem to be all over the place for AMD, how much does CPU matter in this bench?

here is my contribution

1090T @ 4.0 / 7950 @ 1125/1500

7950 @ 1175/1625

This looks about right. Historically, I have found Unigine benchmarks rely very little on CPU power, by the way.

These scores are very consistent, and also appropriately faster than my HD7870. But this underscores that Valley does not provide an accurate comparison of Nvidia and AMD cards right now. These OC'd 7950s should at least be matching my OC'd GTX670.

OCed a bit more the card and got it at 1150/1450 running stable.

Actually 3DMark scores are not too bad but the Valley 1.0 benches are odd...

@HD7950 users: Could you quickly post what drivers you use and which options you have in CCC?

FYI:
- Catalyst 13.2 Beta 5
- AA and AF "Application controlled"
- AA mode "Multisampling" and Edge-detect
- Optimization ON
- Catalyst A.I. "Quality" (think it's that...the higest value)
- Vsync "On, unless specified by application"
- Triple buffering ON

In Overdrive:
- Power control +20%
- OCed at 1150/1450

Just want to know your settings so I can compare and run more tests!

Yeap, vsync is the usual suspect when bad scores are shown. The 29.9 Extreme HD score is an indication of such a problem.

Waiting to see the revised scores of the 7950 OC, since I am quite interested in it (them). Anyone with 7950 CFX care to provide some results? Thanks.

Speaking of results, here are mine at Extreme HD setting.

My 5850 CFX setup, running at 950/1250. My little jewels still carry some punch!

Single GTX 570@850 Mhz

SLI GTX 570@850Mhz

~90% scaling is not bad.

I wonder what Titan will score. I am guessing around 90fps.

Vsync should always be set to Off in CCC when benchmarking. Otherwise the scores could be invalid.

That might be it, but I'm not entirely convinced. Rhezuss had mentioned that to me before, but I didn't think it would matter because the benchmark would never be above 60fps, so he'd never be capped at 60 as he might in a game. Plus, he was scoring close to 40fps in the non-HD present. Could it be that what's happening in the HD preset is that it's actually reading the FPS as capped at half VSYNC - 30fps, even though he wasn't capped at 30 in the lesser preset?

Rhezuss, this is the first thing you should check when you have the chance.

By the way, the Crossfired 5850s above really do well in this benchmark. While my HD7870 benches in 3dMark11 almost identically to my old 5850@850/1200 duo, it wouldn't be close in Unigine benchmarks.

Any thoughts on why Unigine doesn't perform that well on GCN?

DAMN! These results seem a bit more accurate right?

Here's what I changed in CCC:
- AA Filter "Standard" (instead of Edge-detect)
- Vsync "Always off"

Highest temps during all 3 runs with fan at 49%:
- GPU: 64C
- VRM1: 80C
- VRM2: 84C

Now i'm happy! Valley 1.0 is looking awesome now and 3DMark didn't changed at all lol.

...

Glad you got it figured out!

I now realize that the reason you had a 30fps cap in extreme HD but hit 40fps in extreme is that the extreme benchmark was actually jumping between the 30fps and 60fps VSync caps. Hence why both improved without VSync.
