This may not be a great deal considering that on ebay NEW Oringinal Equipment Dell PA9 PSU's sell for $15-30. I know because a family member just purchased one.

If it was new, I would have checked out before posting.

Yes, the cheaper ones can be a good deal if you only need the 2-3 amps they provide. I needed 4.7 amps but its nice to have more headroom like this one has. Hopefully this will be useful for my next unknown laptop also.

I think you missed the part that said ORIGINAL DELL EQUIPMENT. In other words it's the same one that you would get if you were to call DELL to order a new one. They are not generic knock-offs.

And you may have missed the point where this is a universal AC/DC (wall/auto/air) adapter with many included tips and a 1-year warranty.

I was going to get one, but unfortunately there's no MagSafe tip and I just found out 120 W isn't enough to handle a Compaq Presario R3000 series. And that's because the OEM Compaq power supply is crappy and nearly the size/weight of a building brick.

Seems like a pretty nice deal... too bad it doesn't come with any useful tips for me. They seem to go for about $10 a tip anywhere online if they have what you need in stock.

Yes, it's a shame that they make you come up with a complicated code to get flatrate shipping.

Thank you for the post OP! I've been wanting to pick up this adapter for a while but felt the new versions at newegg and everywhere else are overpriced ($106 at newegg, $140 at compusa).

The tip packs for whatever you need seem to run about $10 (ie if you have a newer Dell you need tip N19 which comes in a Dell 3 pack).

This thing does run rather warm from the one I've used in the past but for those that travel a lot the size and weight can't be beat for something that can charge almost any electronic device you have (laptop, ipod, cell phones, pda, DS, etc.).

Hopefully the refurb works out. Of course you can buy 5 refurbs for the price of 1 new at this price.

I'm not particularly impressed with OEM equipment. If they were so good to begin with we wouldn't need so many replacements. If you know something special about your dell then sure but many OEM PSUs seem to be built by these same chinese companies anyway. I like this unit because it is sized for more power than my oem 4.74amp unit that blew out. As far as ebay goes the 6-7 amp units were 40-$70 (inc shipping from memory) 4.7 amp were less and the 2 amps were quite cheap and can be found anywhere easily. Who knows maybe this is apiece of junk and I should of went with a std unit.
Those of you worried about power tips may be able to build your own adapter with 2-$4 in parts. The key is having at least enough amps and the correct voltage in a regulated PSU.
What I am unsure about is if this unit has some special voltage changing tip or feedback mechanism.
Guess I'll find out in a few days.

I have this. This is really light and very thin w/c is very good for travelling, its got enough wattage for laptops greater than 17inches.
For Dell laptops, you may need to call Kensington for the correct connector. It doesn't come with the connector for my Dell I9300 so I complained that the package stated that it has a dell connector so they sent me a connector free of charge.

BTW, You can also use this on airlines with power connectors. One more thing, you need to have the correct connectors since the raw output of the units is 24V, the connectors have internal circuits that lowers the voltage to the correct voltage for your units.

excellent deal but just to tell people you may have to buy the tip for these inorder to power certain laptops or other devices they only come with 2 tips that go for about 10 bucks in stores and 3-4 dollars on ebay just figured i'd say it
i personally got the tips from a compusa that was going out of business

Actually it was circuit city online but in store still $9.99. I just got my unit and it looks good but I think they didn't include the tip N3 that is supposed to be in there. That and geeks shipped one wrong item. Now I got to screw around with them on that.

Mine came today. It arrived with tips M5, N2, M1, N4. It's hard to tell which tips are supposed to be included from Kensington's site. It does not have the zippered pouch to carry everything in it but that is a small concession for ~$80 off new retail prices. The tips in the pic on geeks.com do not match up with what I have. I picked up the Dell tip pack from compusa for $10. The adapter and everything looked brand new. It powers and charges the Dell Latitude D620 with no issues so far. The form factor is perfect for those thin front pockets on most laptop carrying cases. I'm tempted to grab a second one.
