Hello Experts,

Everytime I boot my system it recognizes and loads drivers for an "Unknown" Monitor. I already
have a ViewSonic Monitor installed. I've tried uninstalling both monitors, but each time I reboot Windows
installs a second "Unknown" Monitor. I have a GeForce 4 Ti4200 card and there is no built-in video
on my motherboard. Appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks.

You need to install drivers for the Viewsonic same as if it were a card.
Best bet is to go to the Viewsonic web site and get the drivers there.
Once the drivers are installed, you may be able to kick up the refresh rate.
Good Luck

Try going into safe mode, remove all monitors listed, reboot into normal mode and see if that fixes it.

Is your videocard dualhead? Maybe windows is loading a monitor driver for the secondary connection(DVI etc), windows did that for my Herc 8500...had to switch off the secondary connector in video properties.

I did try deleting the monitors identified on my system and then rebooting and my system still identifies two monitors. One ViewSonic and one unknown monitor. I wasn't in safe mode when I tried it however. What's the difference between uninstalling the drivers in safe mode or standard? Just curious. I'll try doing it in safe mode like you suggested.

Also, my video card is set up for a single monitor only. Any other ideas. Thanks.

I tried deleting the display drivers in safe mode and then rebooted. Windows then installed drivers for both my ViewSonic and an Unknow monitor. Appreciate any other ideas anyone may have to solve this problem. Thanks.

If windows keeps installing a second monitor it isn't.

What I meant was that my video card has only one analog connection on it. There is no DVI connection. How do I get rid of the second monitor? Thanks.

If your card has TV(or video) out, as strange as it sounds, windows is probably installing a monitor for it(had that happen with an Abit T400 GF2 MX400 card). Go into display properties for proper setup.

if it won't let you remove the second moniter permanently you can load the Plug and Play drivers for that moniter , that's solved it for me a couple times .
good luck

I don't have a video out port on my card. It's a very basic Chaintech GeForce ti-4200 with 64 megs of ram. I running with the latest Nvidia drivers.

I first noticed the problem when I attended a LAN party and used a different monitor. I didn't uninstall my monitor. I just plugged in a old monitor I had laying around. This is a no name monitor, which comes up
as an unknown monitor. After the party I hooked up my regular monitor, then I couldn't get rid of the unknown
monitor. I've tried all the suggestions and them some. Currently I have the unknown monitor driver disabled. However, I'd like to figure out what's going on here and how to get rid of the second monitor that no longer exists. Any more ideas? Thanks.
