unlocked my new Phenom II X3...

Went to Micro Center in St. Louis last night and picked up a new Gigabyte MB, the Phenom II X3, 2 gigs of Crucial ram, a new power supply and a new SATA drive...All for around $325...

The ram was bad...exchanged it at the store today...took the whole build there..they switched it out and tested it...all is good now.

Got a quad core Phenom II X3 for $99..pretty good deal.

MicroCenter is my new favorite store!!

nice unlock! I kind of figured that for the price of an X2 you might as well get an X3. The clock is lower but you have a guaranteed third core, and if you're going to overclock you'll probably get just as much out of a lower clocked triple core as out of a higher clocked dual core.

That's a really nice board on the cheap. Plenty of BIOS options and smooth as butter. What PII X3 CPU did you get?

Getting a $28-$33 Single Core cpu unlocked into a full Athlon II 4400e with 2MB L2 cache and @ 3.8ghz is much more impressive?

i thought the unlock would be a lottery gimmick scam but mine seemed to unlock fine, no problems

look around for it in BIOS
it's a multiplier * 200mhz.
Stock on mine was 10x200. I'm running at 2.6ghz (13x).
If your chip is locked (not black edition) then it's indexed to the FSB so then it'll increase when you increase the FSB.

Interesting, so that's specific to the L3 cache? I was honestly wondering what that changed, but I couldn't find a simple answer anywhere that I looked.
