Would this be a good deal? Was playing around on the Buy.com website which is currently selling the 700mhz Duron for $77.95. Add the Canon Photo Gold for $21.09 and something else for $0.99 to make your total $100. Use the $20 off $100 coupon and get the $20 rebate for the Canon Photo Gold to get both products for a final cost of $65.50 shipped.

i got two of these and they were both unlocked and both week 23's. neither one was very overclockable...got about 900 (8.5 x 106), but your mileage may vary.

Well,
Week 24 are the earlier Duron, it might not overclock very far. It might post at ~950, but will only run stably at ~850.
Buy.com must be selling you some old stock!

Duron 700, Stable System
AKBA0030XPBW Week 30 860Mhz at 1.75v
AKBA 0035DPBW Week 35 900Mhz at 1.60v, 1Ghz at 1.85v, ABIT KT7 Raid
AKBA0038EPIW Week 38 1.0Ghz at 1.75 v on ASUS A7V
AKBA0040SPDW Week 40 900MHz 1.65V, 990Mhz at 1.80v

At least you don't have to close the bridge yourself.

Don't be down, you might have some overachiever.

FYI, the price for the Duron at buy.com has dropped again!!!!!!
It's now going for $77.95, buy 2 and use $30 coupon with shipping will be only $125.90
Too bad I got mine a few days ago. Tried calling CR and asking for price adjustment. Won't give to me because of coupon. Anybody tried and succeeded. If somebody did, will try for different CR.

Contrary to common logic, I would suggest that you are better off now purchasing a Duron with the L1 bridges cut (even a Duron 600) rather than a 700 with L1 intact if you intend to overclock. Durons with the bridges missing are going to be of more recent manufacturing runs. My own experience bears this out.

My brother-in-law had puchased a 650 in early August while I purchased two 600's from Buy.Com during their early September Duron fire sale. The bridges were intact on his but broken on mine. We were both novices on Duron oc'g at the time.

Using an Abit KT7, his Duron wasn't stable at 800MHz no matter what. However, with a little bit of conductive paint and a voltage tweak, both of my 600's will run at 950 solid. Being the good bro, I exchanged the "slower" 600 for his "faster" 650 which I used in stock system for another person.

Bottom line, although there are never any guarantees in oc'g, later production runs almost always have higher yields of better CPU's. I would pass on the 700 mentioned if oc'g was my goal.

I ordered a Duron 700 from Buy.com over a month ago. It came unlocked. I have been running it at 950, 100% stable with the retail HSF. I plan to go to 1ghz when my GlobalWin FOP38 comes in. 950 is at 1.75 volts, in an A7V.

That sounds like you had some luck with your chips but your statement is really unwarranted. Your sample is entirely too small. One 700 chip doesnt oc and so you assume that none of the 700's will. This board is full of people having large success on most if not all durons. The statement about later production runs is false as well. It has nothing to do with how old the chip is blah blah, its just the quality of the chip, and if the chip was actually created to be something great, but the market was only selling slower chips. Example. Athlons marked as 600 with 800 cores. Its just a sales tactic. All about meeting supply and demand. They arent going to back order people on 600's if they have a pile of 800's collecting dust. Make sense. Let me know if you test a pile of chips...meaning more then just one 700...and then come back with some results.

Hi Everyone,
I got my unlocked duron 700 at a show for $85 ...retail box not as nice a deal as the most of you. I am looking towards the new abit k7 raid motherboard. When I got my Abit Bx6 the most was available was a PII ....my celery 300a at 450 has been sweet for 2+ years. Now with a new flash bios my "old" Bx6 I can do PIII 750ish...
I cannot wait to put this together!!
Sincerely,
Breeze
