unlocking a phone from t-mobile

I bought a new in the box s6 edge plus from the trading forums on here... The seller -believed- it was unlocked but it's not. I activated it, but still want to use it on cricket's network since I get a better signal at home.

What's the best way to unlock a device that is locked to carrier these days. There are a bunch of services from amazon and ebay. Some people say it's pretty easy to just DIY. Just a few firmware flashing I guess. If I go this route, is there a root firmware better than standard one for samsung s6?

No need for firmware flashing or anything like that. Just call T-Mobile. Tell them you have a phone that you purchased and need to have it unlocked. As long as the IMEI # is showing that it is clear then they will just send you an unlock code. Doesn't cost anything.

Which is all most Ebay "unlocking services" do anyway...

Unless the rom has been changed on the s6. There should be an unlock app built into the tmobile rom. You can try requesting a unlock though their app.
