I'm glad you started this thread...

I am waiting for the SLI edition of the Nforce4 and its frustrating that there is such a lack of information on it...

This is the speculation that has been reported so far...

The SLI version will come out after the other nforce4 boards but no one knows if SLI will be Q4 of 2004.

The A01 silicon has trouble running at 1ghz hyper transport speeds so we should wait for revision A02, and with any luck the SLI version will come out later anyway and hopefully will already use A02 silicon.
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=18849

Here is a list of questions that need official answers:

Will the Nforce4 SLI have a SLI/PCIexpress lock?

Will the Nforce4 SLI have SoundStorm2?

When will the Nforce4 SLI be released?

Is the Nforce4 SLI socket 939?

Can I use a PCI Audigy2ZS sound Card on this board?

Thats what I need official answers too....

I'd like to build this system this Christmas so I can play the new games coming out...

AMD64 +3500 (90nm)
Abit Nforce4SLI (can I OC with this motherboard?)
1024mb PC3200 (2x512mb) Crucial Ballistix DDR (will double check benchmarks for the Nforce4 chipset)
2X BFG GF6800GT in SLI or maybe 2X BFG GF6600GT depends on price, but I'm waitng for benchmarks on the BFG's..
Audigy2ZS (can I even use this card on this board?)
2X 78GB WD Raptors
LianLi PC-61
OCZ 520watt
WinXP64pro (upgraded from XPpro when 64bit is released)

When can I build this system? The lack of information SUCKS! It seems ALOT of people are waiting for this board...

ImJacksAmygdala, the Inquirer posts rumors not facts. Take anything you read on there with a grain of salt. Every other site has said there will be no Soundstorm2. But there will still be 7.1 audio on the boards.

I would guess that the first Nforce4 boards will be out sometime next month. I've been seeing the same thing about SLI being later (I would bet that is right).

Everything I've seen has shown that Nforce4 will be for 939, 754, and 940. A couple places have said that SLI will only be for 939.

There is no reason that you wouldn't be able to use a PCI card with it. I belive that there will only be 3 standard PCI slots though. But, I would wait and try the onboard sound before you get the audigy.

I plan on getting the same CPU, Ram, Mobo, and PSU as you listed (except that it is Crucial that makes the Ballistix not Geil) hopefully in mid November. I can't wait long enough for the SLI boards to come out (waiting too long already). I figure that when I'm ready for SLI in 2 years, I'll just buy another mobo when I get the second 6800gt. There really isn't a need for SLI with any games out right now with that system you listed. The ABIT Fatal1ty is supposed to be the best gaming/overclocking board ever, at least that is what they are claiming.

I doubt that you are going to get any official answers posting on here. I've been posting on ABIT's forums and some of my info is from someone that posts from their Marketing dept. I've been researching Nforce4 anywhere I can for a couple months and I'm pretty confident that my answers are right.

I've seen that same forum at Abit... I wish they would give us an update. I planned on waiting for second revision anyway so I'm not surprised at what the Inquirer posted but its just specualtation anyway untill we get some damn official information. The conflicting specualtion on SoundStorm2 is a perfect example. Its interesting that the integrated sound could possibley be 7.1. I wonder if it indicates other upgraded featuers like the original SoundStorm 5.1 hardware based encoding. I hope the Nforce4SLI will be able to encode 7.1. I also wish I knew if it had optical spdif outputs on it. I also plan on using this PC as a HTPC.

Ya I know about The inquirer... Notice I said "This is the speculation that has been reported so far..."

We are both in the same boat and I have read of alot of other people waiting for the Nforce4 to upgrade. I havn't upgraded in 3 years so my system barely plays Condition Zero. I want to be able to scream through Halflife2, Stalker, and Quake4 so I was thinking about getting the SLI board. I was looking at the GF6600 benchmarks compared to the GF6800 and I think for the price of two GF6600's at about $400 I'll possibly get better performance than buying just one GF6800 for $400. The benchmarks will tell hopefully sometime in November on SLI...

I was considering the Fatality motherboard aswell, but I think I might do better with SLI. Thanks for the correction on memory manufacturer.

I think that the release of HL2 will create a need for SLI, but untill the benchmarks arrive we just won't know... I really hope we will hear more before the end of October...

Also here is a link to Nforce4 forums that has a thread of updated links to news on the Nforce4.

http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=51607

Interesting... another link was updated today 10-04-04 that I didn't see... I talks about a possible release date...

No, there are (3) PCIe 1x slots (1) PCIe 16x slot and (3) PCI 32 bit 33MHz slots. No AGP slots on that board.

Yeah, be bad if it did. The Intel board I saw with both had a warning that due to signaling differences between the specs your AGP card could be damaged or even completely nuked by running it in the board. They suggested only doing so until your PCIe card was available.

We have had very extensive coverage on PCIe solutions from VIA and SiS, and today we complete the circle with some in depth information from NVIDIA's CK8-04; a chipset many have already decided to call nForce4. NVIDIA takes a firm stance in its roadmaps that this next revision of core logic will not use the nForce4 misnomer, so we will continue to call it CK8-04 until NVIDIA calls it something else.

So, its just the Crush chipset...

Anyone want to explain me the memory timings on these new chipsets? I dont understand this 1:2 stuff at all

It has been confirmed that SS2 will be in there. When AT says new HD audio that means SS2 obviously... because it cant be realtek or something.

SS2 will be on there.

That Asus board looks sweet. THe GIgabyte board is MASSIVE but i like the Asus!

Looks like the Asus board has gone to 24pin power supplies same as intel. Verified a long time ago that you can use 20pin on there just make sure it is right. Also they are going to put that board up maybe in the $210-240 range maybe higher with 8 SATA and probably has that stack cool like the P5AD2 intel board.
I'll have to wait and see

Interesting find on the 24pin plug... I will definatley wait untill the boards released to buy a PSU so that I get a PSU with the new standards. There are already some great power supplies on the markey that have them. I plan on getting the OCZ 520. Check this review....
http://techreport.com/reviews/2004q4/psus/index.x?pg=1

I so tired of waiting.... Whats worse is that it has been reported that the SLI version will be released after the other nforce4 boards. The only good thing about this is hopefully all SLI boards use the A02 silicon that fixed the A01 problems... I can't imagine that the SLI would miss a November release for the christmas season... That would really suck if it was delayed untill Q1 of 2005.

Well asus used to have a nforce 3 250 chipset and they retracted it in light of nf4. It was in an amdzone review. Oh BTW you can almost make out the model # on the board it is

A8N-E Premium

Correct me if i'm wrong

A=Athlon
8=K8
N=Nforce
E=PCI Express

example

A8V
A=Athlon
8=K8
V=Via

The -E isn't for Express. Asus generally adds -E to later revisions of boards, and boards that have more features. So Extra or Enchanced, Extreme would probably work better.
