Anyone using 1005 bios and overclocking. Right now im working with a a64 3200, 1024 PC 3500 OCZ EB Ram and I can't seem to go past 214 FSB or I get stability issues such as errors in prime 95. I even tried putting the HTT to 3 but I still cannot get past 214 without getting errors. Should I go to bios 1004 and try?

Well, I can't seem to get my system stable with any of the BIOSes 1.03, 1.04, or 1.05 past the 2:30 mark in Prime95 at stock speeds with OCZ EL PC3200 Platinum at 2.7v. I'm beginning to think it's a RAM compatability issue as I can't think of anything else. I've dropped timings to 2.5-3-3-10 from 2-3-3-10 (actual spec timings allow 2-2-2-5) and am retesting. It's a PIA since I need to wait over two and a half hours to see if anything changed.

Well I tried 1004 and I am getting the same problems. I tried running memtest86 on the ram and I get no errors so I'm guessing it's not the ram. It's not heat because it's running cool at around 38 celsius. Kind of sucks not being able to get by 214. The PC 3500 ram is going to waste =(.

Well lowering the latency doesn't seem to help so I'm going to the 333 RAM setting. Of course being in Socal it might be a heat issue as it's been exceptionally warm lately. What temps are your chipsets running at?

Just Talked to the senior editor for anandtech

A review for this board is coming out this week!!! keep an eye out for it!

As for overclocking I got the 1005 Bios and I have my FSB at 240 with a 3000+(2.0Ghz) running at 2.4(3600+ according to SiSoft Sandra)
Mem @ 333
CoreVoltage= 1.550
HT set at 3x
CnQ off

If I had to predict what the AT review's conclusion will be, here is what I'd say:

- "too little, too late"
- not as good as the DFI
- 7.5/10 tops

I also have a feeling they'll say something like "Just get the MSI instead" since they didn't experience any problems with their MSI, unlike plenty of people on various forums.

Hmmm i think asus needs to up the voltage in the next bios!

are you sure its the voltage? I got my 3000+(2.0Ghz) running at 2.4Ghz with no voltage change. using the 1.550v default and its stable

yeah im sure. i was gradually increasing the FSB and windows wouldn't load unless i increased the voltage. so from gradual overclocking i maxed out at 1.75v. anything less just freezes when windows loads. i was able to use stock voltage up to a bit over 2.4ghz. the closer i got to 2.5 the more and more it started sucking power.

OK...... i just figured out my problem. i had cool n quiet enabled and i dont have an amd fan. this caused my cpu to be locked at 1000mghz and 1.5v. i realized this after doing some bechnmarks and the results were brutal. time to start overclocking again!!

So like I said I'm trying to resolve this issue with Asus tech support:

Flashed to both 1.04 and 1.05 BIOS and I am unable to boot properly with my Plextor PX-712SA SATA burner attached. System just continues to reboot and I'm unable to access the BIOS.

The solution I got, get this, don't flash to 1.04 or 1.05 BIOS. UNBELIEVABLE! This is what passes for tech support?!? Hey Asus, last time I checked it took you until BIOS 1.04 to implement the overclocking features you promised from day one. So now I don't get CPU multipliers or Hypertransport multipliers because you f*cked up the BIOS and don't want to fix it? Maybe I'm spoiled after dealing ASRock and their phenomenal support but I don't think it's too much to ask to fix a legitimate problem that they created. I'm beginning to sour on Asus. I'll reserve judgment until they either resolve the issue or blow me off again.

that really sucks - try posting in the Asus forum over @ pcper.com and see if anyone there has any advice on dealing with tech. support, any specific people you can call etc.

Well, so much for Asus's CRAP support. No solution or reply despite numerous emails. Definitely no company as good as ASRock when it comes to quality and support. The good news is that I finally solved the whole stability thing. Asus, outside of ASRock, is the best of the crap out there, but these days that apparently doesn't mean much.

Well, for those waiting for the miracle R1.05 boards check out the reply from Asus posted by someone who asked the question directly:

This is the answer i got from Asus tech:

Email solution
-----------
We are not aware of different revisions of this motherboard being
released.

Looks like Asus is becoming quite the stroke shop. I still cannot believe the crap re this mobo given how long it took to come out. Just disgusting.

Hi guys.

This thread is pretty informative (altho I won't be overclocking for a bit)

Umm since your so familiar with this board perhaps you can help me out. I've been having problems setting it up.

First off. My ram refuses to go to 400. It loads up in the bios. I set the options but it always stays at 333. Wont set itself higher for some reason even tho I am manually setting it. It's a Corsair XMS 512M 3200 stick rev 1.1 (bh6 chip) that I bought a few years ago.

What I did to try to correct it: changed ddr slots, and upped the voltage. Didnt work. Flashed to 1.05 bios
didnt work.

Ok the second problem I am having is I can't seem to get this network connection working with the onboard lan. It finds everything ok, and appears to set itself up properly but wont log onto the internet. I've got a dlink 10/100 card in there right now so I can log on.

Now the odd thing here is when I first set this up last night it worked. No problem. But I formatted due to another problem and after that I couldn't get it to work anymore. (not sure if this is relevant I note in the system properties computer description at the bottom physical address extention after sp2 is installed. didnt say that on the original install altho it didnt work then either)

third problem. This is really odd. When I originally set this up (i've done a few setups in the last ten hours heh) I got thru all the installs but when it went to load windowsXP up for the first time. For some reason My cdrw/dvd combo drive by samsung wouldn't work properly. It kept rebooting the system. It's odd because the same drive installed the OS not 20 minutes before.

At first I wasn't sure what the problem was but I narrowed it down to the cdrom (yeah I tried another cdrom in there to just to see if I'd damaged mine or not) When the drive bay was open I could load into windows fine or if I had it disabled it would load into windows fine. But once a cd went in I'd get a Machine check_exception.with this error message Stop: 0x0000009cC0X00000004,0X80545FF0,0XB20000000,0X00070F0F)

SO I double checked the cabling, checked the jumpers, and all was fine so I started moving it around on ide channels. Set to master/slave ect Finally I got it to run normally without the reboot or error messages on the main ide channel as a slave to the primary hard drive. It's the only thing that seemed to work. This cdrom drive has worked perfectly for me for six months in other setups so I don't believe its the drive...

But im sort of at a loss with these issues and not sure what to do. SOME help would be appreciaited. I was at amdmb.com and futuremark and no one's been able to help me out yet.

EDIT: As a sidenote perhaps this is relevant with the ram, At the time 166(333) was standard and no jedec specs for ddr 400 were defined so the ram doesn't default to 400 I have to manually set it or it's detected at 333 cas 2,2,2,6 would that be a reason why I can't manually set it to 400? On my nforce2 board I always ran it at 400 222-5 with no problems (unless i overclocked) and it was easy to set.

Second Edit: Well for some reason the Onboard lan has decided to work this morning.. god im begining to
hate this board and I haven't had it for 24hrs yet. Little slow going on line... since each time I start the browser it wants to detect network settings. Anyway for it to auto detect in the Nvidia network manager or does that have to do with the firewall settings?

Also ... I can't manually set the fsb it just stays locked at 200 .. (was curious for later overclocking)

SORRY MY POST IS LONG

here's some advice in dealing with your onboard lan problems.

basically, many of the NF3-250GB mobos have problems with a variety of hubs, routers, switches, etc. especially 10/100mbit hubs by Linksys (which were quite popular a few years ago). with one of those, you have to play with the Link Autodetect settings in device manager. for me, i got it to work fine by forcing it to "100mbit half-duplex". another person got it to work by choosing "Autonegotiate for 100mbit half-duplex". try different settings in device manager for the NIC and you should eventually find one that works. it's best to just force it to whatever speed your hub runs at. hubs are half-duplex, switches are full-duplex.

not just the Asus that has this prob... so does the Epox, and many of the MSI's have this prob also. i suspect it is the "PHY" chip on these boards that cause it, probably was not extensively tested to work with older/cheaper networking hardware.

oh, and to save yourself some grief don't install the Nvidia software... *COUGH*.. i mean hardware firewall. :|

I just found this site through a google search about Asus K8N-E mobo. I am totally stumped in regards to the question another poster has about getting the onboard LAN to work. I tried what LotusX recommended but none of the setting seemed to work for me. Although I don't have router or hub, just the Cable modem to my computer.
What's really confusing to me is that the ip is there and it recieves packets, it just won't get online. Maybe the problem is beyond my limits. I know the basics of windows xp and I can build a box okay, I just can't trouble shoot that well.
Man, any help would be appreciated. I'm dying to get my machine up and running.

I am having the same problem you are with my cable modem and this onboard lan. At first I thought it had to do with the cable modem itself so I unplugged it so it could reset all the ip's. But that didnt do the trick. Also tried different settings to no avail. Thing is .. once in awhile it goes thru for me then it stops working. It shows the private ip address but no current one.. since networks seem to be my achilles heel I finally gave up and thru in a 10/100 card until someone else has a solution

Does anybody know if the Crucial Ballistix have problems with this board?
I had strange errors when installing windows with 2 sticks of 512mb installed, but when I removed one stick everything was A-ok.

I had the same problem with my old MSI-Neo which made me run out to buy an Asus. I just want to be sure that it's the Ram that's messed up before I contact Crucial RMA. Thanks!

Please excuse my newbieness, but my reply button is not working. Is it likely to be Internet Explorer settings or Norton Internet Security or something else?

The Quick Reply Button works, so I'll use that.

Here's my problem: Asus K8N-E Deluxe mobo is six days old. It worked flawlessly, and then ... Power-On Self Test (POST) reports "no keyboard detected" at boot time; keyboard is inoperative under all conditions. The problem appeared while the system was on and unattended; I had returned to the system expecting to use it and found the keyboard inoperative. After rebooting, I heard the POST beep once and saw the "no keyboard detected" message. (As a side note, the mouse works). All lights on the keyboard remain off under all conditions.

Things I have tried: (1) Substitute a known-good PS/2 keyboard - problem present. (2) Test the suspect new keyboard on another computer - it works. (3) Turn the system off for extended time (>30 minutes) and then power on - problem present.

I have also checked +5 volts at the PS-2 keyboard connector; it is rock solid through POST (I have not attempted to measure this under load).

Suggestions, anyone?

Will a USB keyboard be detected and operate if I plugged one in? Obviously, I can't change any settings.
