doesnt appear to help with overclocking issues (1003 beta 5), i think i may pull the board and add some as5 to the chipset heatsink, see if that has an effect. Kind of a nuisance but if it has any major effect then i go back to saying we need htt control to reach potential for this board.

it is possible we will see a review of the board on anandtech soon (mostly speculation). Board was mentioned in the article on nforce3 and gigabyte ethernet and a picture of the box was included, it is possible that this was just a picture pulled from a website, though it may have been taken in lab, if it was, then a review cant be far behind (I hope).

They might just be waiting for the fixed BIOS like everybody else to do a "fair" review.

could be, but if they did a review, and complained or started the review and complained to asus it would get fixed faster then just having a few customers complain.

That's what I'm thinking, either Asus has promised an updated BIOS and asked them to hold off on the review or the reviewer complained and has been promised a new BIOS for the review.

I ordered the k8n-e yesterday, along with an a64 3200 newcastle and zalman 7000a. I am pretty excited, havn't upgraded since tbird 1.33. I will overclock it to see what results I get, but plan to run it regulary at default speed.

Bump... I am getting this board today and was wondering if any progress has been made in the httt option area. I noticed a bios over at ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock754/K8N-E_DX/ dated 8/6/04. Has anyone tried that?

Other than overclocking how is this board. It seems feature rich and pretty solid from what I can tell in reading reviews.

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Just got this board, with a 3200 newcastle.

The first one I got was DOA (the board), got it changed, then it seems to work ok but I have some probs. I'm using 2 Corsair XMS 3200 C2 512Mb sticks, of different vesion (one old version 1.1, and one version 3.2 Platinium I just bought).

When I put just one stick, the machine boots and works ok, but when I put 2 sticks, it does'nt post and I get a "CPU overclocking" voice message (my cpu is no way overclocked !), forcing me to clear CMOS.

Besides, If I use only one stick (the new one) and I change memory timing from the default (all Auto), I get the same error reported.
any Idea ?

if you change it at all or if you change it to something specificaly? What voltage are you running it at? Its proable that the memory timings for each stick are different and it is defualting to the faster of the 2 whcih is waht is causing your problems

I'm running all standard values (voltage and so on), since I'm getting tired of reseting CMOS (where is this damn feature allowing not to do it ???

When I get into the mem settings, with all on auto, it reports a 3.3.3.8, which is pretty conservative since a corsair 3200 CAS 2 is meant to do better, even the old one (at leat I hope !).

When I say change, I tried changing all values (put 2225) or one value only (CAS) with the same result ...

Hope this second board is not broken also !

you can check with corsair but to get to 2225 you probably will have to up the mem voltage to 2.7, try that then changing the cas or try changin the cas to 2.5 at stock voltage, also which bios are you running? I have yet to need to reset the cmos on the board, no matter what i have tried in terms of overclocking, though I havent played with memory settings that much (my ocz runs fine at 2.5-2-2-5 at 2.7v at 218mhz fsb (go any higher on fsb and I get random restarts).

I dont need 2225 absolutly, a 2336 or even worse would be perfect .... if I only could use the 2 sticks of memory I have and not only one. I dont wanna be forced to buy a gig of expensive 3200XL (that's 300 euro/bucks) to solve this problem !

My memory SHOULD work, even if the 2 sticks are not of the same series, they are the same model ! I'll contact corsair.

you currently cant see the htt mutliplier, nor can you change it. Hopefully the next bios/beta will solve this. You can email asus tech support (tsd@asus.com.tw) to complain about it.

just saw this review posted (in german i beleive) review
they also complained about the 20mhz fsb overclocking issue (using the 1.3.09 bios) so maybe asus will take notice and get a fix out (most bios/betas have come on thursday so hears hoping for something by the morning).

guess my idea on it being a chipset temperature issue is false as I got the chipset temp down to 35 degrees and still hitting same wall. Still could be htt related hoping next beta will give option to modify those settings.

Regarding the htt multiplier, any tool that reads the htt frequancies reports a 800 Mhz. I guess it means it's a x4 setting ! Therefore the problem is elsewhere IMHO

I tried some OC (with air cooling, AMD box fax), and coun't get past 212/213 ... 210 seems rock stable, 215 leads to a reboot as soon as processor intensive apps are launched.

I did not activate cool and quiet, is it a good idea ?

As far heat, I'm kinda satisfied : at 2300 Mhz I get a 48°C full load, taking in account that it's hot summer here, that my rig is in a room corner. With my former XP I had 10 degrees more !

I Read the test, apart from this OC limitation and the average sound quality (though I don't care since I use SPDIF only !), it's a killer board ! Hope ASUS will get this problem fixed soon ...

New Bios give you a lot more over clocking features that work. The multiplier option has changed and actually works, and cool n' quiet actually works.

lets see if i can oc more
