I had no problems upgrading to SP2, or installing SP2 clean or installing MCE 2005 (OEM) clean. I doubt your issue loading windows is related to the asus board, it more likely has to do with some software you had installed which worked fine in SP1 but sp2 doesn?t like. Slipstreamed means sp2 is added to the install of xp so you install xp with sp2 from the beginning, you can build a slipstreamed disc yourself from your copy of xp, the sp2 download and software found online. I would recommend doing a clean install and upgrading to sp2 before doing anything else, or making a slipstreamed copy and installing that way.

Well, most people say you should have at least 20A on the 12volt line for *any* Athlon 64 system.

And if you're running one of the high-end "current-gen" video cards (X800XT, 6800GT) you would need more than 20A to be safe, IMHO.

I guess this is Asus' Xmas present to us?

1007 FINAL Bios released for Asus K8N-E Deluxe

http://usa.asus.com/support/downloa...=K8N-E%20Deluxe

New features:

1. Support new CPUs. Please refer to our website at: http://www.asus.com.tw/support/cpus...cpusupport.aspx
(the newly added one is the 90nm Sempr0n 3100+)

2. Patch S3 resume

Also, I've heard from some other forums that this fixes the issue with WinXP64 where you couldn't use the Microsoft Eval copy because of "videoprt.sys". With this bios, you can now use the latest version of WinXP64 without any problems.

I have NOT personally tried this bios yet.

Santa was not nice to me : I tried installing this 1007 bios and received a lot of instabilities, crash over crash. I reverted back to 1006, but it also crashed DURING THE FLASH WRITE !

Now I'm stuck with a system that won't do anything : no boot, no post, no "crashfree" recovery, no voice message ... it justs spins up drives and that's all ! I tried CLRTC procedure, removing the battery, ... still nothing. And of course nobody works these days !!!

I'll try to find a guy who can reflash the chip, or RMA the board (which I don't want, how will I work one month without computer ???) or even buy another one.

Nice christmas indeed :frown:

holy cow, your message just got to me on the right time,
i was just about to install the 1007 revision and i got a blink in my mailbox. i stopped as soon as i read your problems.
i had the same experience as you when i downgraded from the 1006 revision to 1005.. everything went well with the flash, then after rebooting for some freaking reason, it went into a dos mode window and started a CMOS flash... i still have no idea why it did that. It flashed the CMOS to something while reading the K8NE CD still in the drive. it said, successfull flash and rebooted... then dead system.
drives would spin and keep spinning, no bootloader no safe mode, nothing. Did the CLRCT, did the battery thing, nothing worked. finally had to take it back to the dealer to have it flashed. wasted 5 days without a machine.

i do however want to know if anyone has successfully migrated to the 1007 revision? is it worth anything?

Well I'm not saying that the bios update caused my problems, but it started right after I installed 1007 ;-)

I tried 1007 BETA (might differ from final release, donno), but went back to 1006 final. No probs.

xmaxx, try putting a BIOS file on a floppy, name the file k8ne.rom, and then press ALT+F2 @ post. Might be worth a goo

good luck

It's not xmaxx its me. I think I tried this one, but since there's not post and no floppy read ... nothing happens.

That's really unfortunate.

I think I will still try flashing to bios 1007 anyways. If it screws up, I still have a backup computer - or I can use this as an excuse to build a new socket939 system. LOL.

The 1006 and 1007 lower my 3DMark05 by 200 points I don't understand it. So I'm using the 1004's now.

IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL bsod randomly after loads (far cry), or during games (pop:WW)

... what does it mean? When it happens, my older (possibly damaged) harddrive spins down and powers off.. and then only comes back on after POST. When the HD is on, the fan makes a waning noise repeatedly every second... like it's warped or and spinning out alignment.

is this a bad harddrive thats just crapping out, or are the nforce SW IDE drivers messing around with more of my older hardware.. (like how it makes my LG 16x RW not be able to read any cds; lockups when it tries)

the driver says it might cause errata "...with some devices..."

thoughts ideas?

are you on SP2? SP2 can throw such errors when you have some poorly written device drivers running. for example, the virtual drive device driver for Alcohol 120%.

also, it is indeed possible that its being caused by the nforce SW IDE drivers.

or bad hardware. i'm not sure, i think that particular BSOD is kinda "catch-all".

that BSOD is very common. This is what I would do: (assuming you´ve got all the latest drivers for your chipset, gfx and so on)

*Get the latest ASPI layer interface from adaptec (might be the reason to why your CD aint working)
*New in SP2 is DEP "Data Execution Prevention". You can try to disableing that by editing your boot.ini. Google is your friend
*Remove any Anit-Virus or firewall
*Try some BETA chipset drivers, try looking here www.nforcershq.com
*And now to my final choice, and the one that I think is your best shot -> Install windows without ACPI. That will disable windows IRQ handling, which will make different devices get the own IRQ, and not like now when windows has 4 devices on IRQ 12. A brief guide can be found here: sysopt.cjb.net (will update it to support nForce based motherboards and ATI cards as well l8er today.

Talking about my own BSOD adventures that I´ve had with this board are actually pretty poor. I´ve actually only got one BSOD and that was "Bad pool" something. Got it when I tried to upload a special directory. Just can´t figure out why, still. SYstem runs perfecly except for that.

Good luck, let me know the outcome for this battle!

hi alls,
came here in a deperate mood, tried to get help from my favorite forum (not an english one), no results

a64 3000+, asus k8n (not deluxe!!!), 2*512 ddr4000 hynix, inno6600gt, 400w q-tec, no sata, no raid
here is my problem:
i cannot overcome that damn 2300 mhz barrier, and got no idea, why

things i've tried:
lowering HT (3x), keeping the original HT (4x)
ddr333 mode, timings on auto
variations for the multiplier (9, 9.5 and 10)
variations for "fsb"
vcore 1,6-1,625
etc blabla
well, without letting the story be too long, the result is always the same: when around 2300 mhz (let it be 10*230 or 9,5*242 or anything else) the system (winxp sp1) won't start up: no loading screen, no logo, just a brief bluescreen and restart

now comes the interesting part:
i tried to eliminate the weakest link, changed the vga to another smaller one (thought that the psu is too weak), same results
but deconnecting all the ide drives, the system is starting fairly well at 10*235 with 1,625v and ddr333
i could enter bios and see that the temp/voltage/fan is allright, no problems at all
i even restarted the machine several times, and worked (of course, there was no boot in absence of boot device)

when reconnecting the hard drive, the symptomps appeared again: the os won't boot up ((

what is the problem?
should I manipulate the ram settings (i mean timings/voltage) indeed?
why the ide-hdd is causing headaches?

PS.
sorry for my english, that's not my native one

yeah the 2300 barrier exists in the SH7-C0 revision of the CPU with the 1A revision of the K8NE-D as well. maybe you have those
i have a 3200+ which refuses to go over 2990. getting the same problems that you described. no boot screens, BSODs immediately after startup and my drives just keep spinning
its just a kink

the 2300 barrier has less to do with mobo revision and more to do with CPU revision.

C0 stepping chips will have this problem.
CG stepping chips (later-made Clawhammer and All Newcastles) should not have this problem

for example, i have the first revision of the Asus K8N-E Dlx and i can do 2600mhz just fine... probably even higher if i tried hard enough.

Athlon64 3000+ (2.0GHz) Newcastle CG stepping.

well, my cpu-z says that's a cg, and I wanna beleive it ))
on the other side, if it were indeed a weak C0 one, it won't work at all at 10*235
but it does (only without hdd, ehheh)

can it be some tricky issue with the ide chanel? what else?
