Its about darn time. Been waiting for a while.

For those who never played or never noticed it, the animations on Homeworld 1 are kinda slow and clunky compared to Homeworld 2. It also doesnt have native widescreen support and it doesnt seem to work correctly on modern OS's.

Hopefully all these issues will be addressed. It looks like they also improved the textures and lighting so thats a nice bonus.
And its got steam multiplayer, so that will be groovy.

Fantasy: Maybe this will kickstart the space RTS again, maybe companies will make some decent games this year or next year.

Nice!! I missed getting Catalysm, but I didn't like HW2 at all, a big disappointment from the first.

Too bad Cataclysm isn't included, I guess another publisher owns the rights to it. Already pre-ordered, glad it's coming out soon.

The problem there is bigger apparentely: no one has a source left so they would have to rewrite the thing from scratch. Unless someone finds some really old archives.
Fortunately the same didn't happen with HW1 and 2, the first even had the source code released after a few years. So many kept a bit here and there that in the end I read there were many gigabytes of content both of code and assets (for a game that came out on cd that's really something).

Anyway the right are still of another company so that would require an aquisition, not very likely after they spent >1million on the other games just for license.

I would say no big loss, from what I remember it was not that good anyway, at least from a story/lore perspective

Homeworld is what started me into PC gaming.

I was at a buddy's house and he had his sick new gaming CRT and he 'cranked' the graphics up to 1600X1200, I was blown away haha. We ran a lan cable from his upstairs bedroom down to the PC in the first floor living room and gamed all night until it was time to deliver sunday morning Buffalo News newspapers in the freezing cold.

Ah to reminisce. I knew I wanted a pc right then and there.

Who knows how many hours I put into those games, and I didn't even touch multiplayer. I fired up homeworld 2 not that long ago to get a look at it. Honestly it doesn't look bad at all even by today's standard. The best thing about those games was how easy it was to move and strategize in 3-d space. It could have been an exercise in frustration, but they just got the interface completely right. Totally pre-ording this right now.

This has me stoked. I won't be able to get it at release, but it's already on the wishlist.

Love the Homeworld franchise, The story was fantastic, The graphics were fluid though blocky.
In Homeworld, The only flaws I found were minor, The game couldn't work correctly when you abused the salvage corvette stealing every ship on the screen, THen when the next level started part of the marshaled fleet was off the games playzone.

In Homeworld 2, To me the biggest flaw was the research and build ques.
Instead of being able to branch control resources you could only research 1 thing at a time.
This also carried over to the build que, Only being able to build one ship at a time be it fighter or heavy ship.

Last thing was the loss of technological knowledge, I could see it happening on Cataclysm since it was only a mining ship, But having to research from scratch in HW2 was stupid, Why not just build what they had last time and research a new and modified version later "(Mr Scott), That might work, (Mr. Spock) Hell it better, It worked last week".

I do like the ability in HW2 to commit suicide during multi AI fights and watch them fight each other (Though sometimes the AI can really be stupid)

I shall be getting the remastered when it comes out, I doubt I will ever play multiplayer other then AI's.

I hope future incarnations will support more then 16 players and larger maps, Also as someone mentioned above a prelude, That would be awesome to know who built those massive large wreckages seen in the background of HW.

Too expensive for what it is considering I played both to death back when they were released and also some time in the last 6 years when I was running a 47" 1080 HDTV.

Yes, it still looked good then. Crank up the AA, AF and other things that you couldn't add because they didn't exist or you never had the horsepower for and it's still a sight to behold.

Absolute steal for anyone that hasn't played Homeworld before but I'm saving my cash for a deep discount before reminiscing in HD

They have the original source code and are using it, right? So things like kami/salving, Bouncing Battle Balls and the like in HW1 will still work because they're keeping the mechanics completely unchanged?

My favorite game of all time. Now I just need to decide if I want to shell out the $ for the collectors edition.

I don't know. I skipped around through that quite a bit, but it looked heavily focused on HW2, which I didn't care for, and I didn't see one capture.

Looks like at least HW1 aren't using squadrons, so maybe the proper formation play will remain. Bit worried though.

I think they focused on HW2 footage just because there is much more going on. More ships, larger explosions, etc. They went for the "WOW!" factor to show it off and help generate sales.

I'm guessing that the Homeworld Remastered Collectors Editions are all sold out and aren't ever coming back in stock. Which is a bummer. I didn't realize that it was a limited run. I assumed that there would always be the Collectors Edition available. $100 is pretty steep for a game I've already played countless times, but that USB powered Mothership looks sooooo nice!

Same! I remembre when the game came out, everyone was talking about it. My PC at that time was pretty lowend so I passed on it.

Glad to see this title back, pretty sure it'll end up in my collection of half-played games lol

Did I catch them saying in the convention video that they used the Homeworld 2 engine to make the remastered Homeworld 1?

Yeah I think so, or something like that. They also mentioned you could pit HW1 fleets vs. HW2 fleets in multiplayer.

I agree. I've completed the original HW many times (the many walkthrough online help) but never got more than a few minutes into HW 2. The original storyline was so compelling. A wrong move during the game would mean the end of your civilization. HW 2 just didn't feel the same. I liked Cataclysm and prob completed that (again with the help of walkthroughs) at least twice.

I will definitely be purchasing this remake. When I purchase it is another matter. I may wait a few months until the price drops as I still have all of the prior games.
