Sorry to braek this thread apart but I'm looking to go Intel from AMD.

Can you guys fill me in.
1) Isin't the FSB synchronous with the Speed of the RAM such as AMD systems, 133MhzFSb = 266FSB and it increases from there??
2) Are the northwood Multiplier unlock??
3) What motherboard would be good to O/C it to the max. I love Asus boards but what chipset??

Anything else I should know since I'm always the AMD guy. What's the vcore of these things??

pillage:

1. yes, P4 now supports DDR
2. no
3. the 8IRX/P's are good, but pricey. I got my P4B-c for 117 and my results are good. only thing ive found is that I cant adjust agp/pci frequency, but pci seems fine at 67 mhz, which sandra reports. Ive read that both the SiS and i845d chipsets are good. i cant really offer an opinion either way.

Dude, that is REALLY bad! You're gonna blow something at that speed!

yikes...pci freq. is 33mhz normally...67 is really high...are you sure that wasn't your agp?

well, that has to be the agp freq. cause I have that set at 4x and the manual says that at that mode, the bus speed is 66 mhz. I can't find anywhere in the manual to set the pci divider or anything like that. so im ASSUMING it does it automatically.

If it's not multiplier unlock. How are you guys getting such obscene speed??!?! :Q

Overclocking the FSB?? What FSB are you guys at. From what I've seen, it's just 133Mhz. Isin't that what the Northwood is suppose to run at?

Any mobos that support RAID?? I need the extra two channels.

No, Northwoods run at 100Mhz FSB by default. Plenty of boards that support RAID, I have the Gigabyte GA-8IRXP but I think Asus and Abit have offerings too.

CPU: 1.8A @ 2.4
Voltage: 1.625V
Cooler: Intel Stock (Sunflower on the way)
SL code: SL63X
Fpo/Batch: L146B030
Location: Malaysia
Pack Date: 12/26/01 (MY 29th BIRTHDAY!)
Motherboard: Gigabyte 8IRXP
FSB: 133
Memory: Generic Micron, running CAS2 and aggessive timings

I have a feeling I got a good one after reading some others not getting to 2.4 or only getting the with aggressive cooling (ie. overclockers.com). Once I get in the AVC Sunflower and throw some AS on there I think it might get just a little higher, still have plenty of voltage left to use up (not going over 1.75V)

I've read the whole thread and was wondering why some people are running 333Mhz memory and 133Mhz FSb??

I've been in the AMD arena too long I guess.

P4 motherboards have adjustable memory dividers/multipiers.

im running a 133fsb and a 166/333 memory bus (4:5 ratio) on a true 333ddr motherboard.

CPU: 1.8a @ 2.25g Edit- now 1.8a@2.52g
Voltage:1.6v setting(1.55 actual) Edit- now 1.67 after wire trick
Cooler: retail HSF with stock thermal pad
SL code: SL63x
Fpo/Batch: L146B047
Location: Malaysia
Pack Date: 12/27/01
Motherboard: MSI 645 Ultra
FSB: 125 Edit- now 140fsb
Memory: Crucial pc2100 running at 333mhz, cas 2.5t, normal setting in bios Edit-now running at 350mhz

Will run at 133fsb(2.4g), but not entirely stable. If I could increase the voltage a bit I think it would be stable. Or better cooling but I think this is less likely to help.

Edit- Now stable at 140fsb and 1.67vcore or 133fsb and 1.62vcore

Why don't people report their actual FSB? If you set the FSB to 3x, and clock a 2.0 to 2.5, your actual FSB is 375... down from the 400 default. This actaully hurts your performance in day to day work and many benchmarks.

Example:

My 2.0 at 2.3 with FSB at 4x and actual FSB at 460 gets 9492 in 3DMark2001

2.0 at 2.5 with the FSB at 3x gets 9430.

Getting the processor up there is meaningless in my mind if you have to cripple your FSB to do it.

<< Why don't people report their actual FSB? >>

Because........On my TH7-II (and lot's of people have them) I set the board to "Fixed at 66" so there is no underclock of the BUS.

BTW..

2.2 @2.6 default V-Core.

Dave - post all your specs man! I have the same mobo and chip and am curious what voltage it takes to get to 2.6. I have only had it for a week and have not tried higher than 2.4. I do anticipate needing a voltage boost of some sort though.

It's at the default v-core.

I didn't change anything, except the FSB to 118, and the "fix @66" setting.

Stock heatsink and fan..........runs about 47c, but I'm in Florida, and my temps are always higher than most.

I forgot to write down the CPU specs before I buttered it with Arctic Silver II

<<edit....whoops, that was 47c not 37c>>
