Wrap the last knot twice for security.
Doesn't do anything for the looks. I guess I'm just asking if it's possible to wear the shoe so that the laces look like that (knotless). There isn't enough room inside the shoe to tuck the knot inside.

Doesn't matter how you tie them. Only two types of men would look good in those, a fifteenth century fop and a six foot, ninety nine pound, Italian.

why must the laces be tied? I don't tie my laces, I straight lace across and at the top I just tuck them down. The shoes stay on my feet and the laces stay inside the shoe. Looks better too imho.

Guess I could do that, laces are pretty long though.

Italians make some stupid looking shoes. Your only choice is to tuck the lace. You could also cut short lengths of lace, and put metal inside. Bend it through the loops, and it'll be permanently tied.

ITT: lots of poor people that knows nothing about fashion.

Edit: Howard, you'll probably have to cut shoe lace and do a double-loop knot and tuck it in. Use a thingy to help you get in those shoes, the knot should be a dead knot.

Reminds me of how we tied our boots when I was in the Royal Canadian sea cadets so that you could easily slice the lace off and drop your boots if you had to abandon ship.

Looks like they still do this 40 years later.

I've seen this lacing in some shoe stores but never thought it would have a history behind it.

Similarly, I tie my military boots in a certain manner that my squad leader taught me 20 years ago. The history behind it was that the Royal Gurhkas wouldn't cut your throat with their Kukris if they felt a certain knot on the back of your ankle. About a decade later I met some Gurhkas and told them the story. They laughed their asses off. The knot also serves the function of remaining secure in a jungle environment for days, so I still use it, as I've become rather accustom.

That's what our commanding officer taught us during cadet lessons. Maybe he was bullshitting us but I was 13yo and it made sense. We were also taught that no metal bits were to be on the heel or sole of our boots because otherwise we could slip on the metal deck of a ship and fall overboard. Finally, we were instructed to use only black shoe polish for our boots, no liquid shoeshine, and only the brand Kiwi (the brand Nugget was explicitely forbidden).

I was only a cadet for a few months. Left in early 1971 because of peer pressure and other reasons (increased school work for example). By that time, after the War Measures Act had been implemented to deal with the F.L.Q. terrorist cells during the 1970 October Crisis, it was definitely not cool to be a cadet even though the soldiers had been mostly on the streets in Montreal rather than Québec City.
