I think it's worth $12 if you enjoyed UT99 CTF. At least it would be based on the player counts I saw this weekend, but who knows how long that will last since it was a free sample weekend.
For the first time in a couple years I was able to enjoy regular weapons CTF on public servers. UT 2004's CTF game sucked because of the floaty-dodgey movement and hitscan emphasis and, consequently, UT 2004 regular weapons CTF has been dead for a couple years now, but UT3's game play isn't too bad (though not as good as UT99).
The patch improves the User Interface some, but there's still lots of work to be done. It still loads the main menu background map and it still feels clunky and slow (like a console port user interface). Also, you can't seamlessly and quickly pull up the server browser from anywhere--you still have to leave a server before you can pull it up.
