Anyone else going to get this? This is supposed to be a huge FPS for the PS3. I don't know if I'm going to get it and I really wish there was a demo of it out because that would help my decision. I really don't want to just buy it w/out having tried it out first because the videos didn't do too much for me.

If anyone has it yet can you post some impressions on it? I most noteably am curious if the controls with the kb/m are actual native kb/m controls that the devs programmed or if it kind of "emulates" controller input (sort of like the smartfrag did). I'm pretty sure it's native mouse support though but just wanted to hear opinions on how it actually works.

I'm also curious if they split up the kb/m and controller people who are playing online.

I'm interested to hear some impressions of it as well, but it'll have to get cheaper before I'm even remotely interested in picking it up.

I bought it for pc even though I have a PS3. I don't feel a console will do this game justice. Plus we had a good time with the demo at our LAN party.

heh trust me, my PC wouldn't do the game justice, if it even would run on it.

YES I AM. TODAY. I HAD THE PREORDER SINCE JULY!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!! GAAH!!!

I played this at comic con. It was the awesomeness.

<---extremely biased opinion since he's a HUGE fan of the UT series since its inception..owned every single UT game released. Didn't want to spend money on a computer upgrade, and went w/ a linux box/blurayplayer/gaming machine solution instead w/ the PS3.. First fps on console w/ keyboard/mouse support and mod support. I must get.

I love the series. UT3 is just not as good as UT2k4 or the original UT. Sure it looks pretty but COD4 owns it. It was also rushed. I didn't play it since the 284 meg patch was released so I dunno if that helped things.

please let us know how it translates to console play. I am a fan of the series, but have yet to buy it for the PC. I think I'd rather own it on PC because I'd have the potential for more people I know to play with; however, it would be cool to own on the PS3, because I could play from the couch (or my bed, depending on dorm or here at home), still play with kb&m, and enjoy a bigger display. And I'd still get access to mods and whatnot.

however, it's cheaper on the PC and will have access to a larger modding community (and all mods will be natively made for it, and will have to be ported over to the PS3 through the apps provided).

Yea I need to get CoD4. I've played some of the single player on the PC, and have played some of the single player and some multiplayer on 360, and I really enjoy the multiplayer. Probably one of my favorite multiplayer experiences so far, of any game. It might override my wish for UT3 and I might just go and get CoD4.

however, I recently picked up Warhawk on the PS3 and I'm really enjoying that too.

Downloadable Mods for PS3 not ready yet

The PlayStation 3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 has been the talk of the town for being one of the first ever console games to feature modding. Though you'll need the PC version to make use of the editor for maps, models, and so forth, having access to player-created content is still a huge feature. We've been testing these functions out, but have learned that the PS3 version?which hit stores across North America today?cannot accept mods yet. Epic Games team member Josh Adams has explained the problem on the official forums:

However, the PS3 mod tools aren't quite ready yet. We are working through some final legal/release issues.

When it's ready, you will need to download the latest PC patch and another PS3 Mod Tools "patch" that adds the full PS3 mod support to the PC version.

You will have to cook ypur mods for the PS3 specifically. You will also need removable media (memory card, USB drive, etc) to transfer the mod from your PC to your PS3.

Our tests show that the Unreal Engine 3 Editor has no way of exporting content specifically for the PS3 yet. There is also no utility to package the various .ini, .ut3, and .u files necessary for other mods into a format that can be extracted and installed by the game's import content function. Though the instruction manual contains some basic instructions, even the printed reference page is currently unavailable. This may be a downer for some who were looking to get mods going right from the start.
Ben's Thoughts

This is a bummer. Frank and I have been working on the front page review of this game, and one of the things we were looking forward to trying was putting this major aspect of the game to the test. Everyone needs to be clear on this if you're hoping to buy the game today and instantly have oodles of free levels to download and try: it's not ready.

Hopefully the required utilities and and patches will be made available as soon as possible.

No, the problem is some people are ignorant.

Do not call people "ignorant" for having an opinion that differs from your own.

How is he ignorant? bl4ckfl4g states later on in the thread that he's played it, liked the previous UT games, and feels that UT3 was rushed out the door. Him saying that UT3 sucks is actually what they call an "opinion".

Check out IGN's impression here.

After a few hours tinkering around with Epic's PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3, we have to say we're very impressed. Epic has, at least upon initial examination, done a great job making sure PS3 users get the full Unreal Tournament experience. Not only does it control well with the SIXAXIS, but the game features fully customizable mouse and keyboard support, along with the ability to load in mods. Perhaps most impressive, especially considering the number of PS3 versions of games that run poorly when compared to their counterparts on other platforms, this version's visuals are brilliantly detailed and run, at least as far as we've seen, as a very smooth clip. We have experienced a bit of slowdown on larger Warfare maps with the maximum number of bots loaded in, but it wasn't anything to get worked up about.

A notable difference between the PS3 and PC version involves how dodging is handled. With the SIXAXIS, you tap jump while moving left or right to dodge ? there's no double-tapping of anything. With a USB keyboard plugged in, dodging still works the same way. You have to hold A or D then hit space (jump) to dodge, there's no double-tapping of A or D. Note that you can still wall-jump using this dodge move. There also doesn't appear to be a crouch command ? it happens automatically when approaching a space that requires it.

As far as getting the keyboard and mouse set up, it's simply a matter of plugging them in. The keyboard we used was instantly recognized and the game let us fully customize our key configuration. For the mouse we were using, we had to restart the console to get it to respond. The mouse only works while in a game, meaning you can't browse menus with a cursor or anything like that. Sensitivity for your mouse can also be set, as can that of your SIXAXIS, and your character's turn speed. Once you've got the keyboard and mouse working, expect a very PC-like experience with UT3. The pace of the game seems slower than the PC version, but it still has that UT feel to it.

For those who don't own or don't care about USB keyboard and mouse support, yet fear those utilizing the more precise mouse aiming will dominate their SIXAXIS thumbstick skills needn't worry, as before you hop into the online server browser you can filter out servers that have mouse and keyboard control enabled. You can also filter for pure servers and view server status (who's playing, whether bots are enabled, whether mutators are enabled, time limit, etc.) from the server list.

Though we haven't tried it yet, the process for uploading user mods is rather simple. Just pull the file from whatever site it's available on to a USB drive, insert the drive to your PS3, head to the My Content tab under Community from the UT3 main menu, and hit the square button to import. You then simply select the inserted drive and pull the files to your PS3. Again, we haven't actually tested it out yet, but the implications for free modifications that have traditionally been one of the biggest reasons to stick with PC gaming are significant. Console owners, don't turn a blind eye to this kind of feature ? user mods can dramatically affect your experience and enjoyment of a game.

Anyway, people are just starting to appear online, so we'll have the PS3 review later this week after we've flak-bombed a few faces over the interwebs. In the meantime, you should know that all signs point to this being an excellent version of Unreal Tournament 3, offering a unique and enjoyable brand of FPS action. You can check out our review of the PC version, which released last month, here.

Can you honestly say that you think the gameplay is better than UT or 2k4?

the difference simply comes from the fact that people demand better vehicle gameplay, and the maps in UT3, from what I have seen (I do not own the game as of yet), are geared towards 'modern gameplay' in that vehicles seem to be more focused and refined.
the game easily has the ability to feel just like the other games, the user community simply needs to create maps that are more UT in their style. Personally, I like the feel of UT3, but that's because I like how multiplayer games in general have progressed and UT3 is trying to take modern multiplayer and add a heavy touch of UT gameplay. It definitely is quite a bit different from UT, but its only different from UT2004 because the way people play the game has changed. People have adapted to a slightly different play style because of all the other games out there. at least, that's imho.

haha so far it's great!!

The only thing that BLOWS is you can't use double tap to dodge. you have to hold A or D in conjunction with spacebar. That took quite a bit getting used to. I couldn't configure the shift key nor the crouch on the keyboard. blah.

Anyways, I love it. The kb/mouse implementation is flawless, save for the dodging . What I do now is hold the SIXAXIS in my left hand and use it jump and move and such, and use the mouse on the other. You can use both the SIXAXIS AND KB/Mouse in-game.

I also have a splitfish FragFX, so I use that too in conjunction w/ my real logitech G5 mouse. It's been great.

The game is definitely the best looking PS3 game out so far. The single player campaign is interesting too (you can play the singleplayer campaign in an online coop). I'm still trying to figure out voice chat. Either I have yet to find a server that has it enabled, or they forgot to add it in even though there's a button to enable voice chat

I use my 40 in. Samsung as my TV and my PC monitor, so it feels like playing on a PC pretty much..
