Got my copy today. The UI does suck, but not that big of a deal to me.

I did play a few matches, and so far I love the gameplay.

Only seeing an average of 86% rating. Might hold off on buying this, as most of what I've read from people it's the same ol as the previous version, with minor tweaks.

Orange Box and COD4 have put me in a tight spot. If either of those games hadn't come out, I would have jumped on this instantly. I'm a longtime UT99 fan, and I hated UT 2k3/2k4. I'm glad they went back to the darker art style and feel of the originial UT. However, with COD4 and Orange Box, I doubt the full game will make it into my computer until after Christmas.

Hmm...well, I just played the demo. Graphics are pretty good, but the gameplay seems even faster than previous versions and that's saying something. I like my shooters to require a bit more thinking and a bit less twitching. Don't think I'll buy it.

I just played a bit of the demo. Hearing the old ominous UT99 menu theme being played (albeit remixed) almost brought a tear to my eye...*sniff* .

Now, with that out of the way -- it all seemed quite familiar, nothing too revolutionary. I haven't played UT2k3/UT2k4 in years, but I had no trouble picking up and playing UT3 (including the combo moves), without checking any of the input mappings.

I never did get the upgrade to UT2k4 (i.e. the game that 2k3 should have been). I didn't find 2k3/2k4 as enjoyable as UT99 for some reason -- I guess I didn't like the "NFL of the future" feel to it. I might get UT3 at some point though. Like some else said, this does seem a bit closer to UT99, especially with the darker theme. They also seemed to have done a good job balancing good framerates with the improved graphics.

I just installed and played for about 30 mins.
Based on initial impressions : 8/10. This may change as I play some more.

The combat is really good and fluid. The vehicles are awesome....but i am not able to change to first person view in a vehicle, and a couple of the necris vehicles are a bit too complicated, although damn cool.

The maps are nice, but some are a bit too 'dark' for my taste. I strongly prefer the bright and colorful Deck, my favourite map from UT2004, the one in UT3 sucks..it's like fighting in a dingy sewer

The graphics are beautiful, and the bloom seems to be okay, and not excessive as I feared. I've left the post-processing on default for now and maxed everything else at 1920x1200. Runs smooth as butter.

I don't see any in-game option for AA. Do you need to force it in the NV control panel? i am using 169.02 if it matters.

And oh yeah, the menu is one of the very worst I've seen in ANY game recently.:frown:

One of the maps (DM-ShangriLa) I found a little disorienting at first because of the haze/blur effect. I had to switch to another map to make sure it wasn't occurring all across the board.

I did notice the lack of AA though, haven't found a way to smooth that out. I took a screenshot -- it's really noticeable if you look at the stone wall on the left. For those who have the retail version -- is the AA configurable?

I believe it uses deferred rendering so it is not possible in DX9, but EPIC has promised AA in a DX10 patch.

I play w/ world detail at lowest

Brings color back into the game, & gets rid of bloom, motion blur, depth of field fogginess, & all that other crap.

If this came out over the summer, i would have it. If Crysis came out over the summer I would have it, but with both coming out a month after Orange Box, and with GH3 and Rock Band being out for consoles, I don't have any extra time to play another game.

I will just have to wait till after christmas when I have more time and get done with some of these games.

Same for me, so many awesome games except well I have finals... it is driving me insane, can't wait for these two weeks to be over and then I'll just unwind with some Crysis and UT3

I picked it up today. So far so good. Though, the last Unreal game I played was the first one.

Anyone notice the audio not syncing up with the video during the movies (cinema scenes, whatever)?

So where are all the players? The servers seem to be perpetually empty. Looks like this game bombed before it even had a chance. I hope I am wrong, and didn't waste my SG$62.

Were the servers this empty during the initial days of UT2004? I missed the first few months of that launch.

I thought there's no Onslaught in UT3 anyway?

EDIT:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unreal_tournament_3

This wikipedia page shows no Onslaught mode for UT3.

I was disappointed back in March/April when I found out there was no Onslaught mode, as that was my favorite mode, but I know they put in another mode that is very similar to Onslaught, just the name isn't coming to me right now.

The new name is Warfare it's the same as Onslaught? There are huge problems with this game! :| I've only got it to work once, it was cool though. You can read more here: Epic Games Until then it's gonna be UT2004.

I want it bad but Im not one to pay full retail price. Usually the big retailers put new pc games on sale within the first couple weeks. So far thats has not happen with UT3. What's that about!? Maybe gogamer will come through for me. I give it another week before I pay full price.

Everyone hates the server browser, and are probably playing COD4 till it's fixed.

Also no dedicated server software for Linux yet.

A coworker mentioned something interesting to me. He said he was playing UT3 and had more trouble seeing other characters because of the better graphics as they tended not to stand out as much. His idea was to turn down the textures and such so they're not as good and players don't blend in as much.

There's also no AA available right now for any game based on the UE3 engine (same as why Bioshock has no AA).
