This game is great for twenty ,thirty minutes of fragging and then going about your normal routine . The funny thing is if you turn down your settings it enables more fog so you cant see as far, quite the opposite of previous UT's . Anyway once the patches start coming this game will be much better...

I used a program called WinMerge to help modify my retail (and beta patch 1 and 2) UTEngine.ini using a UTEngine.ini that was modded for the Demo. Visibility and playability seems much improved. Here's a link to the Demo UTEngine.ini:

Then you need to get WinMerge and go through the retail's default UTEngine.ini and the tweaked Demo UTEngine.ini and selectively change things that seem related to graphics settings.

Were the servers this empty during the initial days of UT2004? I missed the first few months of that launch.

Everyone hates the server browser, and are probably playing COD4 till it's fixed.

IMHO, one of the best things Epic could do would be to completely revamp the Server Browser and the clunky and slow User Interface. The User Interface should be changed over to UWindows and it should be given many more tweaking and adjustment options.

The fundamental game play itself is excellent and solid, so it's a game that could bubble back up to the surface once Epic has it patched up, especially after the marketing campaign begins when the console versions hit the market.

Fry's had it for $39 first day only, if I had know about the problems with the game I would have passed until it was fixed.

There are already two beta patches available, if you know where to get them. (Find the UT3 IRC channels on irc.GameRadius.net and start asking around, try #ut3ctf or #ut3tdm). The server browser is improved some and filtering options will be saved and there's now also a Server History tab that keeps track of the servers you've played on recently, though that isn't the same as having a list of Favorites.

I don't know if it's an Epic issue or an nV issue, but either way it's ruining the game for me.

I love UT...was a pretty die hard UT2k4 player, & love UT3 in spite of it's faults.

But UT3 just seems to have so many little things wrong with it...

If this came out over the summer, i would have it. If Crysis came out over the summer I would have it, but with both coming out a month after Orange Box, and with GH3 and Rock Band being out for consoles, I don't have any extra time to play another game.

I will just have to wait till after christmas when I have more time and get done with some of these games.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who shares the same opinion. 8 months of nothing then all of a sudden 10 block busters come out "just in time" for the holiday.

People who are in school who take finals, parents are too busy planning the holiday, kids who are not in college but in middle and high school are being bombarded by 12 hours of home work each week.

Who the hell has time for video games anymore during Oct-January?

Gah, I have an 8800 GT on order. No problems so far with my x800xt. Hope they or nVidia get this fixed soon.

Absolutely not. For 2K4, there were tons of servers available from day one.

2K4 had a kickass Demo of ONS-Torlan and DM-Rankin, iirc. UT3 Demo had vCTF, lol. No Warfare in the Demo, and no communication from Epic during the Demo period for the most part. Hell, it was labeled a BETA demo at that. Then the game came out with little change.

Now they are patching it. You paid 50 bucks to Beta test for a PS3 version!

I knew exactly what I was getting into and what I was buying before I dropped $54 + tax on the Collector's Edition. Since I keep up with Epic's forums, I had read the reports that came back from Germany about how the retail version had the user interface and server browser of the Demo. It's a little better after installing the first two beta patches.

I'll say this: I'm having a great time playing UT3 and I'm not at all sorry that I bought the game. No vehicles regular weapons CTF is great and feels close to the game play of the Original UT99 CTF and Warfare is a lot of fun.

Guys--if you liked UT99--go ahead and get UT3. You won't be disappointed. Epic did a great job with the game play, but you have to be able to get passed the icky user interface and server browser in order to access it.

Okay, i have a silly question.

How the hell do you play online?

It won't let me create a new profile, it tells me the Password does not match the current name. Serriuosly, its frustrating. wtf

EDIT: nvm i got it. what a efed up way of creating a profile.
