Funny thing is that I like UT better than Q3, but I play Q3 about 50X more than UT. Both are great games. $10 for UT is a killer deal, IMO.

if (UT == Q3)
{
cout << "Really? They're two different games." << endl;
}

else if (UT > Q3)
{
cout << "Does it really matter?" << endl;
}

else if (Q3 > UT)
{
cout << "See above... Does it really matter?" << endl;
}

else

SERIOUSLY... why would anyone want to debate about this futile topic... opinions mean almost zilch in real life... and they don't necessarily make a game better or worse. Ok. Don't pay attention to me.

My list:
#1. Half-Life (no one can argue against this)
#2. Unreal Tournament (everyone has their opinion, worth EVERY penny for $10)
#3. Quake III (ut is just more fun, for some reason.)

Actually, I surprised that it took 20 message for this to turn into a Q3 vs UT thread. We must be mellowing or something.

I like UT very much. Especially the fast food and TV store levels. Fun stuff. I like Q3 too, but as i kick more a$$ in UT, I like it better.

I managed to turn my whole networking class on to UT! Now we know the true purpose of lans.....GAMING!!

Love it for 10.00

Inosuke
After rereading this thread, I saw that it didnt take that long afterall.

Hey. When they both came out UT got the edge over Q3A according to most game reviewers. Q3A, though, in my experience, tends to "grow on you" while UT seems to plateau. Both are kick-butt, and $10 for UT is not anything to sneeze at.

Bump for a great post, and for something decent finally being cheap at CompUSA! Ha!

Gawd hear we go again.

Let me conclude the standard rant.

UT for mindless idiots who like pretty colors.

Q3 for morons who have there heads stuck up Carmacks a$$.

There no more. Please.

Here's another vote for UT. Better maps, better weapons, better "feel".

here's one more for you guys to argue about. Half Life Counterstrike and Team Fortress Classic are the best!

I play both UT and Quake 3. These days I prefer to play Quake 3 since Team Arena is out. More weapons, nice different modes of gameplay and the new outdoor terrains are nice. I know all these things can be included in mods but its nicer to have them come with the game. I also like it better because I feel it takes more skill in aiming because the weapons in Quake 3 are mostly one or 2 hits and your dead as opposed to UT where you can smack them around a couple times and they're still alive.

For the question as to why UT is only 10 bucks as opposed to Quake 3. Quake 3 requires a key so you have to buy it. Anybody can burn a copy of UT and get online, so theres more UT players. I would know, I used to be one of them until I won a copy at a LAN Party. But I ended up buying Quake 3 because its so much more fun online. You can play Quake 3 on a LAN without legit cd keys but not on the net.

Just my 2 cents

No, the deal only lasted for a week at CompUSA. However if it's Unreal (the original) that you're talking about, Best Buy has it for $4.99 this week.

If you're looking for Unreal Tournament and need to buy something else (I had to buy a digital answering machine.. I've been on an old tape one since forever), you can find it at OD at least for $19.99. Might be able to get it cheaper somewhere else, but I bought a $30 AT&T answering machine, $20 UT, and pack of pens so I could use the $15 off $50 coupon floating around. Just a thought in case you need it that badly.. otherwise there are "other" ways.. heh.

I'm sorry all.
Counter-Strike RULES.
None of that flying and floating in the air, souped up futuristic weapons, 200 HP and 500 armor BS.
CS is some serious realistic sh!t.
Don't you Q3 and UT ppl whine cuz u can't handle dying from 2 shots before you even get to fire your weapon, and then wait to respawn.

Yeah, CS looks like a really cool game to try out since I'm more into realistic simulation-type stuff. I had a chance to try out Rogue Spear and Swat3 which were okay, but the demo versions weren't all that great (Swat3 seemed to have an easier learning curve). Any idea where to get CS on sale?

Essentially I paid around five bucks for UT, but I may just return it and get some store credit for later. I haven't checked BB for prices anyway, but it depends if I even have time to play it or not. Just thought I'd grab the last UT on the shelf at the OD though since I wanted to use the coupon to buy my answering machine. (I didn't have a lot of other options for $20 worth of stuff I wanted)

Yep, a good deal, but I would have sworn I saw UT Gold for 4.99 at BB.
I'm trying to check the website to see if it's listed but it's currently down.
If you've got a BB near you it wouldn't hurt to give 'em a call before heading out!
