I prefer Q3 over UT, UT is a good game, just feels weird to me.
And I don't think CS is on par with Q3 or UT due to the simplicity of CS. UT/Q3 requires precise aim, movement, armor/weapon/health and more prediction. But then again I prefer dueling rather than teamplay which CS really have Just my opinion.

Oops this is OT . Anyway, good price for UT.

Good price for UT(even if it is gold). Anyway UT is way better than Q3. Looks better, plays better, more balanced. I love it. When I first got it I spent 11 hours playing team games online getting my ass slaughtered. If you like Q3 go get this and give up your day job.

CS is loved way too much by the masses, and becomes inherently ghey (cs is cool, some cool peeps, but also by far some of the worst llamas ever to go online find thier way to cs in droves like lemmings). UT follows closely, with much newbie affection.

Q3A is just a base game. Ever heard of mods? That's where Q3A really becomes by far the most intense, fastest, skilled, mature, interactive, team-oriented, fun, non-gay-non-newbie-lovin-non-canthandletheskill, or whatever-the-hell-you-want-it-to-be-game-there-is. LMAO at the people who say, you cant type chat in Quake (WTF), or its a mindless fps (you obviously dont know about where to look for a good mod/game/community).

People who say "Q3A is just faster and mindless, and UT has so much more" are either blind to the community of mods, or don't get it at all. Q3A has it all, go find it, UT has a lot, Q3A just has it all and better.

As someone in these forums said before.

I had been playing the Awesome Strike Force MOD for UT and picked up HF + CS for $3 from the previous deal post. CS was fun the last couple of weeks I have had it until this week someone hacked it good and now people run around at 200MPH and wipe an opposing in 20 seconds. Hopefully Valve will fix this cheat but at least I only spent $3 after rebate for both or I would be pissed that online play is sux now.

Yeah I agree, all the weapons in UT have such a larger area of damage, like the rocket launcher, when fully loaded it shoots like 6 rockets in a spread, or in a circle if you hold alt-fire. This goes for most of the non-bullet type weapons atleast. Not the same for the Quake3 weapons, you actually have to be pretty dead on to your target to hit them, I?ve always like both games. Thanks to my connection at home I can't enjoy either thanks to bandwidth limitations (2+ years old cable, in a area with a bunch of napster, porn loving kiddies = 14.4 like bandwidth fun.:disgust: ). Now I really only play Tribes, it has such a great network code, and still is a very fun game. Once in awhile I break down and play a little half life, since the game has such a simple engine the bandwidth needed is very little compared with newer FPS of today.

If your not into online play, or have a nice stable connection, I'd pick up both Quake3 and Unreal Tournament, both games make for lots of fun.

You see UT is more for the newbies UT is pretty easy but still fun, Q3 is much harder, but Counterstrike owns all of them when it comes to skill and FUN. This is all IMO. Bring on the flames... I think anyone that has played cs can say that it is better then all of them. Well most people anyway.

AmdEmAll: I played CS I don't think it's a better game (of course you said most so it doesn't matter ) Sure CS is fun only because it's so simple and easy to pick up(i.e. newbie friendly) IMO. I don't think it has anything to offer to "hard-core" players...besides knowing all the places to camp/getting better aim by playing so much. But that's what I gather from trying to give it a chance for a week. I was not impressed, but if you like it play it! No need to argue what game's better

Multi: isn't that the same with all FPS games? Just better shooting ability and knowing the map . . . The reason I like CS more is because of the more realistic gameplay (it's not completely realistic, I doubt anything can be) and teamplay. Teamwork matters in the damn game.

Gotta agree with the tribes 2 poster it is definitely going to be the best game until such a time as I can get my hands on it though Tribes will be my #1 game

AncientPC: No, it's not like that for all FPS . Try playing a veteran Quake player 1v1. Even if both of you "know the map" and have about equal aim, the quake player should win, assuming he has better movement and resource control . (dunno about teamplay...)

Multi: In CS it differs because if it was a 1v1 (which really does suck in CS) you're limited to one primary weapon so you're forced to put yourself in a position to have an advantage over the other person.

It may require the use of flashbangs or high energy grenades to get close / away from the enemy and a lot of sneaking around trying to flank the opponent. Because kills are rather quick, a lot of the game is sneaking up on the enemy and gain the upper hand. You can say camping gives you an advantage, but I think in CS 1v1 matches you're putting yourself at a disadvantage by closing yourself off in a corner with no mobility.

My biggest problem with UT and Q3A is the almost unlimited ammo people can achieve. I never really played Quake 1, I started with Quake 2 and I understand what you mean by resource control (take all the weapons so he doesn't get any. ^_^) but it's all up to personal preference, which is why these Q3A v CS v UT debates are quite pointless.

Hmm.. sorry to hear that.. that blows. Actually, I am into playing the Tactical Ops mod for UT these days.. kind of entertaining. Still haven't gotten to try CS yet so I don't know how it compares to that specific mod, but I've seen plenty of debates about these two mods/games. http://www.tactical-ops.net for more info on this UT mod.. heh.
