Unreasonable Temps?

I have a AYHJA 1.4 on Abit KG7-Raid with SK-6 with 80mm Thermaltake 34cfm in an Antec 600 case. My temps (Celsius): case 21, cpu idle 48, cpu load 52. I have Enermax dual fan psu, 2 intakes (both 80mm) and 1 exhaust under psu (80mm).

But is my idle too high? I think it is but I can't really drop it.

well, idle temps aren't relaly a huge concern with amd chips... if you really want to, you can try the register 52 tweak or cpucool that will drop your idle temps...

Your full load temps are the important ones, but they are inline with other kG7 mb "readings" so you should be fine.

Temps seem to be a little high to me.

Two possibilities:

1. Air flow may be unbalanced due to only one 80mm pulling air out vs. two in. You may not be getting the hotter air out of the case. I don't usually count more than about 10-15cfm for PS fans.

2. The SK6 may not be seated well. Try removing and re-installing it with Artic Silver if you are not already using it.

I am running an Alpha PAL8045 with a sunon 80mm 50.6cfm and never have temps above 39C under full load using MBM for temps.

I agree with jhites...I have almost the exact same rig. (1.33@1.4 now) Two things: Make sure the clip is on the right way--I had in turned 180 degrees once and my temps sucked (a little higher than yours). The other thing to keep in mind, as always, is the ambient temp in the room. My load temps vary as much a 5 degrees depending on how far I keep the window open (MN winters are great for cooling stuffy, apartments).

The clip is already the right way, I have reseated it with the core in the middle of the rectangle the sk-6 gives and I am using ASII. The case fan setup i am not too worried about. With the fans off, I see one degree celsius change in both case and cpu temps. Jhites, your fan is also pushing out 16 cfm more than mine, so your load temps would be lower. Ambient temp in case is always steady 21 degrees Celsius.

Hey basilisk, what are your temps?

Thnx for the input everyone.

Hi!

Your temps seem fine to me. 35C is a little high for case temp but you did not specify the ambient temp so we only can guess the delta of two...

But I do not recomend trying the 52 bit trick because there were some instability issues with Abit boards (I do not know if the KG7 were
affected thought) when high speed Athlons (>1.33) were used. Thats why the newest bios revisions have disabled that bit by default.
The trick affects only the idle temps, when going full load the temps would be the same.

Cheers,

Case temp is 35C=96F I thought it was cooler in New Jersey than that. What is the ambiant room temp?

My ambiant room temp is 21C=70F and the case is only 1-2C above that.

If your case temp is at 35C=96F then you are doing pretty good with the chip temps.

Hope you are staying warm enough.

Hey everyone again. I thank all you guys for you input and want to apologize for wasting your time cuz i made a "boo boo" ;-)... My ambient temp is 21 Celsius with my case temp at 26. I just upgrade my MBM to 5104 and now there is a huge swing with temps... My case temp fell from my last post from 35 to 26 with my case fans on. My idle temp fell from 48 to 43 with fans on. My ambient room temp fell 2 degrees from last night... damn heater. (all temps are in celsius.)

So how about my temps now? ambient: 22 , case: 26 , idle: 43 , load: 50

Thnx...

Now that sounds more realistic!

Now if you had a little better cooler than that SK6 you could drop maybe to 36C idle or 10C over case temps.

Not to worry thou, you are well within the specs.

<< Hey basilisk, what are your temps?. >>

depends on what I'm clocking at the time and how cold it is in the apt, but at 1.4GHz, (10X140) I normally don't go over 45 at full load. sys temps are in the low 20's but I think that's because the temp probe on the KG-7 in located in the lower-right corner where my intakes are blowing right at it (2X Sunon 80mm's in the old hydrolic Alienware case) Looks like you got a handle on the heat situation...now push that CPU
