hi. have been using my moded rig now for 2 months now and am unhappy with the temps im getting. here are the specs:

AthlonXP 1.7 (No Overclock)
Volcano 7 (It has a copper core with aluminum fins and an 80mm fan. I have the sensor inserted in between the fins for max rpm. Oh and Arctic Silver2)
EpoX 8kha+
512 MB DDR (2700)
GeForce3 Ti200 64mb
Seagate 40gb (7200)
Enermax 350w (Dual Fan)
Enlight 7237 (Modded)
* Exhaust - (1) 120mm top blowhole, (1) 90mm rear
* Intake - (1) 80mm front intake in the stock location, (1) 120mm side on top of the cpu fan and the DDRs, (1) 90mm on top of the GF3
* All fans connected to a baybus with a 12v - 5v toggle switch in the 5 1/4 bay.

I like gaming. and whenever i play... It reaches up to 50c. And thats with all the fans blowing max. For my set-up, thats too hot considering the mods i put in. Also, the room temperature is at 35c so im definitely doing something wrong. Here are the things i have tried to lower my temps.

1. Tried re-cleaning the heatsink and the CPU in case some of the old thermal pad still remained.
2. Reapplied AS2 and carefully reseated the fan.
3. Turned off and covered the rear 90mm fan to gain positive pressure in the case.

I only got 1-2c off with those. Can anyone suggest other things? TIA!

it doesn't look like you can do much more with the case airflow, so your last resort is getting a higher cfm fan for your cpu.

a couple of things:

35C Case temp with 50C cpu temp, on an 8kha+ (figure the 8kha reads temps between 10-20C over system temps on average), really isn't a bad temp.

The Volcano 7 isn't a high end performer, even the copper one.

Work on lowering your room temp /case temp first... how is your room temp right now?

HOw much higher is system temp versus room temp?

Really do need the ambient temps to do a valid comparison. With the normal free mods of clearing airflow passage through the case (removing metal in front of fans, opening front cover vent holes, bundling cables, etc) you should be able to achieve temps within about 5-7 degrees of ambient.

Big worry here is turbulence with your current design. You have a fan blowing in down front, then several on the side disrupting that airflow, plus the spaced out exhaust fans. You may have some short-circuited airflow paths, such as the between the side fans and rear ones. In other words, the air may be going directly between those fans, passing over/away from your GPU and CPU, the two main sources of heat in the case. Its real hard to tell when you have so many variables.

Do the free mods. Then unplug your side fans, and cover them while you take some temp readings. You might find through trial and error that you can achieve cooler temps with fewer fans.

Until you air condition your computer room, you will have high temperatures reguardless of how you change fans and other equiptment!!!! The Volcano 7 is not a high preformance HS, but none of the others will do much better in that hot enviroment. On fans, it looks like overkill; you are just pumping hot air around and around in that case. Try turning some of it off til you find a better temperature.

Get a Air Conditioner!!!

I also agree that you should try and lower your room temperature. I'm guessing from your current setup that there's not much more that you can do inside your case.
