Until Dawn PS4

Until Dawn is coming out on Aug 25 for the PS4. Has anyone else been following this? Basically you play as all the characters in a b horror movie and depending on your decisions all can survive or any number of characters (even all) can die. It has a bad release day coming a week before Metal Gear V comes out.

It looks interesting enough that'll I'll probably end up picking it up once it's on sale. I know Dell will give you a $15 store credit for preordering but with it so close to MGSV's release I wouldn't have any real time to play it.

What I find interesting is rather than just playing the game trying to have everyone survive, you can act like a writer/director and go for what you think will create the most interesting story. I normally wouldn't role play as a jerk or psychopath but maybe that would make the story more interesting. How about if one character is played as a coward and doesn't save their friend from dying. I'm not sure how that's how the game will actually play but it would be interesting if it did.

The general consensus seems to be "Yes this a flawed game but really fun and different and you should try it out." I'll definitely be picking it up on sale.

It actually looks interesting, but I think the real replay value is lost after a few times through unless it is really good. I would wait for it to come down in price or be PS+ game rather than release day purchase.

Not a game I would ever buy at MSRP. I rented Heavy Rain for like 7 bucks and I regretted it. Too damn short. It the same with how I feel about Beyond 2 Souls as well.

Glad I'm not the only one to think so. These cinematic theme games are just too short in my opinion. A complete waste of $60 in my opinion. If I want to watch a movie, I watch a movie. I want to play a game.

LOL I'm doing the same. I learn my lesson with Heavy Rain and Beyond 2 Soul to a certain extent.

I have a $25 dell credit from preordering MGSV that I'll get about 3 weeks after it ships. They don't have FO4 for sale and the credit is only good for a couple of months so I'll probably use it to buy Until Dawn unless Mad Max is unexectantly good like Shadow of Mordor.

I ended up youtubeing a bit of Heavy Rain/Beyond two souls since I didn't have a PS3 at that time and was wondering what they hype was. I don't think Until Dawn will be as good on youtube just because the decisions are far reaching and you can end up with any number of the characters surviving (including all dying or all living). It's supposedly around 9 hours and even if it's 7 most reviews are saying it's worth replaying at least once to see how you choices affect the game.

I enjoyed beyond two souls and heavy rain but I got them for cheap. I think I'll rent it instead because I was streaming some of the game from PlayStation live and its not the same as playing obviously. I like games with a good story but there isn't much gameplay in this one.

I do this for a lot of games now, because I don't have the time or money to invest in gaming.

Watched radBrad or whoever do his walk through. Game is pretty cool, creates a lot of tension but doesn't have TOO many cheap scares. Made the mistake of watching his last vid of play at about 10pm, in pitch black with my head set on. Mistake...Almost wizzed myself a few times.

Playing as a jerk or psychopath makes every story more interesting! :awe:

After the first play through I can say that the game was fun and gorgeous.
There were some aliasing issues on things like fur, but otherwise the game looks very clean indeed.

I bit and picked it up from amazon for $50 after finishing MGSV. I beat it last week after 4 evenings of play; I completed it around 8 hours. I ended up saving only 3 of the 8, with 2 dying as a result of me not paying attention and 1 from making a bad choice.

The game is really well done and I'll definitely end up playing it again. It is a bit like an interactive movie with some of the better qte's I've seen in a game. Also the introduction of the "Don't Move!" mechanic where you have to hold your controller still is extremely effective and I found myself holding my breath since it seems like the slightest move would trigger the fail. Of course you can put the controller down but that's only if you know it's coming. If you didn't know it was coming then putting the controller down would have you fail.

The game has a good (not great) story influenced by 80's/90's horror movies. It's elevated by the game's signature butterfly effect which changes events/relationships based on the choice the characters make. Also spending more time with the characters than you could in a 90 minute horror movie and having the ability to play as all 8 of them makes you end up caring more about them.

I'd definitely recommend it if you have any interest in it.

I will probably get it when it drops a little cheaper. Sounds like I would enjoy it. I did play heavy rain and beyond two souls so this one should be better. But I don't want to spend $50 on it now.

If you have a free weekend you can always get it from redbox. I've never used them but I saw Until Dawn to rent at my grocery store and I think PS4 games are $3 a night. You can easily beat it in two days if you have the time and only spend like $6.

Yea that sounds like a good idea. I will have to check it out and see if its offered at one of my redboxes.
