Loaded UT(v428) on my winXPpro box and there is this annoying moused acceleration that I don't get in win2kpro or 98se. End up spinning 360 when trying to do 180...can't hit any baddies! How do I get rid of this unwanted mouse acceleration? Setup: XP1800+, MSI KT3 ARU, ASUS v6800DDR, logitech optical mouse(happens with or without logitech drivers).

/me plays ut too much

Most people b-tching about mouse problems in ut is either when they switch to 2k/xp.. for some reason the mouse feels different... I don't know what it is but you get used to it.

People checking "enhance mouse precision" in windows... migh tonly be microsoft mice tho.. but thats what microsoft calls accleration now also gives people problems.

Thats all I can think of, UT doesn't do anything with acceleration tho.

Becks2k thanks for the reply. Well I installed tweakUI1.33, set mouse acceleration to none and I still get totally unplayable variable speed movement in UT...ugh.

You'll need to go into your \UT\System folder and open the user.ini file. Then search for these lines...
MouseX=Axis aMouseX Speed=6.0
MouseY=Axis aMouseY Speed=6.0

Start lowering those values to your preference. I find 1.0 pretty much eliminates the acceleration, though keep in mind the lower you go from 6.0 the higher you will have to adjust mouse sensitivity to make up for the loss of acceleration. I've found the best for me with those values at 1.0 (with a Boomslang 1000 set to about the middle in it's software controls, that allows me some on the fly adjustment either way) was mouse sensitivity set to 14.0 in UT's menu. I also always have "enhanced pointer precision" off in Windows.

I assume you can go below 1.0 on that (never tried between 1 and 0), but beware that a value of 0 will prevent you from moving the cursor at all. It's kind of odd how the acceleration in XP affects different people in different games. I heard all kinds of people complaining about it in Q3A and Tribes 2, but I didn't get acceleration in either of those games at all. On the other hand, I had heard of no one complaining about it in UT. Sure enough, when I got around to reinstalling it one day...I had mouse acceleration.

YBS1, thanks...I'll give it a shot. I've found this unwanted variable acceleration also happens in Serious Sam(second encounter)...I'll see if I can edit it's system folder too. Thanks again

See, that's what is odd. I don't get it in Serious Sam 2, unless of course it can be turned off in the game menus and I've forgotten, because I know I didn't mess with any configuration files manually in that game.

YBS1 that did it!...thanks. The acceleration in SS2 isn't as bad as it was in UT, I can live with it. I wonder what is causing this?

I downloaded an XP update and it went away :Q. Can't remember which one it was though, I downloaded a huge batch of updates all at once.

I had the same problem with mouse acceleration. Except I'm using Win2K Pro and noticing differences in mouse accel. than when I had Win98. I found this on another forum and it totally fixed my problem. Supposely this works in both Win2K and WinXP. Create a new txt file and rename it to a .reg extension, edit it with the following text, then just run it to add to your registry:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse]
"SmoothMouseXCurve"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,a0,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,40,\
01,00,00,00,00,00,00,80,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,05,00,00,00,00,00
"SmoothMouseYCurve"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,66,a6,02,00,00,00,00,00,cd,4c,\
05,00,00,00,00,00,a0,99,0a,00,00,00,00,00,38,33,15,00,00,00,00,00
