Unwritten posting rules for OT?

Basically unless it's for a good cause or requested with good intentions, posting things like that for "personal gain" is frowned upon by people who don't want their time wasted... and here we are in Off Topic

Thank you, personal gain wasn't something I thought about. Didn't realize it would bother people so much, its just a game. I just take it as, the 60 secs that you take to realize what this thread is wouldn't justify the whole, BAN thing. Even got cursed out over it by a user that will remain nameless. So anyway, thanks for you guys willing to take the time to be nice about it (because it takes so much effort to be nice nowadays). Now I can't wait for my chance to crap on one of these guys

Thou shalt not discuss serious subjects on AT, this is a place that exists to be used as a crutch to those who are addicted to the internet and abuse it so they don't have to face their own problems in the real world. Idunno, I remember several examples where people exploited the awesome power of the AT effect. Just recently there was a thread where a user asked people to vote for his dog in some contest. Not only did ATOTers happily comply, they also made sure that the other major competitor would be pushed back to 3rd place by voting for the OP's dog and some other random mutt. That was for personal gain, and nobody complained.

I think the outcome usually depends on the first couple responses, and there is no guarantee that something will or will not work. If the first reply says "BAN", the sheep will probably follow in like fashion, especially if it's a respected member, whereas if the first response is like, "cool man, you got my vote :beer:", then the other responses will be similar, too.

Basically, this place is utterly unpredictable. Posting is like playing Russian roulette. Ah, the excitement!
