"Up"grade - w2k to nt4!

Anybody know if this is possible?

A fellow here at work would like to put NT4 on his machine, over (or replacing) a running w2k install. Would an "upgrade" work with this combination, or would a w2k uninstall/reformat be the only solution?

No can do.

If the filesystem is FAT, you could dual boot by installing NT4 in a different directory.

Other than that, FFR: Fdisk, Format, Reinstall.

You may, stash. In fact, I asked the very same question. The answer was, "because my other machine runs NT4."

Sheesh. I, too, told him I thought a reformat was the only route. Thanks all for the info.

Lemme get this straight...you are an admin at work? And you have a luser telling you what he would like installed?

If you are in fact the admin, tell him to conform his ass to the win2k standard that you have in place.

Edit: If he is your manager, or has any say in the continuation of your career at said workplace, disregard the above advice

NT SUCKS ASS. Why would anyone prefer NT over 2k??? Reminds of Good Will Hunting when he talks about his dad giving him a choice to be beaten with a belt or a wrench and he picks the wrench. "Why? F him."

i wouldn't go so far as to say NT sucks...it definately had it's place, and did well, but now it's way past it's prime, and 2000 is the way to go...btw, there is *no* way to "down"grade a system from w2k to nt4, you need a format and reinstall...

I should point out, in all fairness, that I am not an admin here - heck, it's not even an IT department. (Are you gonna kick me out, now? -kidding) Believe me, though: if it WAS such a place, and I WAS the admin, things would be a lot different around here.

I really like the Good Will Hunting quote. Gotta use that more often.
