Actually I'm suprised this wasn't posted last night. I saw it on CNN and now on Fox news.

Up to 700 Iraqi Police Officers Poisoned

They were rushed to hospitals after eating a meal that breaks the sunrise-to-sunset fast during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

An inspector for the Environment Ministry says between 600 and 700 members of the predominately Shiite division were affected to varying degrees.

The scariest part being:

Some of the policemen began bleeding from the ears and nose after the meal, said Jassim al-Atwan, an inspector for the Environment Ministry, who was serving as a liaison in the investigation between the Health Ministry and the base, located in the town of Numaniyah.

Ahh, US imported Spinach salads, now we know where all the recalled spinach went.

(I dont think Ecolli causes bleeding from nose and ears, maybe Ebola, but they would also be bleeding out of every pore in their body)

What a bizarre story. God bless those guys, but I find it amazing anyone is willing to volunteer to work as an Iraqi police officer given that they seem to have an average life expectancy of just a few days after completing their training.

7 Police dead, thousand+ sickened

KUT: At least seven policemen died and hundreds others fell ill after suffering from food poisoning on Sunday in the town of Numaniya,
south of Baghdad, police said on Monday.

It was not clear if the poisoning at an Iraqi military base was deliberate.
Police sources said they arrested four of the cooks on Monday.

The policemen became ill only minutes after the meal and at least 1,350 of the 2,000 policemen at the base were hospitalized,
Lieutenant-Colonel Hasan Nima said.

Have you been following the events in Iraq at all? What in the name of Allah does being soldiers/civilians/police officers have to do with sectarian violence and respect?

Police officers are the symbols of order (read, Imperialist stooges who control local populace, read: way for insurgents/terrorists to continue sadistic acts in name of Allah against different ethnic/tribal groups) and as such they are as much a target (and easier than US soldiers) as anyone else.

Dozens of civilians who are tortured and killed weekly by these maniacs aren't soldiers or policepersons either.

Pretty bizarre - here's something I didn't know:

False morels are difficult to treat in an article on edible and poisonous mushrooms,
because they so clearly fit both categories.

On one hand, many people have enjoyed eating false morels for years and may even consider them a favorite wild mushroom.
On the other, false morels have definitely caused serious illnesses and deaths in the United States.

The problem seems to involve the amount of a toxic chemical, called monomethyl hydrazine (MMH), present in these mushrooms.
MMH causes diarrhea, vomiting and severe headaches, and occasionally it can be fatal. However, because of different cooking techniques
and different individual sensitivities to MMH, false morels poison some people but leave others unaffected.
In addition, false morels in some areas of the country contain more MMH than in other areas.
All this makes these mushrooms a very doubtful group as far as edibility is concerned.

Now I am quite familiar with Monomethyl Hydrazine (MMH) but don't normally associate it with Mushrooms.

If there is any chance of Iraq turning out alright, it's because of Iraqis like these guys. I'm constantly amazed how willing people there are to sign up for the police and the military, knowing how much danger they are putting themselves in. Someone blows up a bunch of police, and twice as many Iraqis are there the next day to sign up...really amazing.

At least 10 people died and 1,200 were sickened at a base in Numaniyah after eating a chicken dinner that may have been laced with cyanide, according to recruits and an army colonel with knowledge of the investigation. He said the food was undergoing laboratory tests.
