I don't want it to appear just yet, haha, the sooner it appears, the less time I have on nabbing a hot deal on an out going 2405 or 2005.

I'm a little confused about this whole HCDP thing. Would it be safe to assume that if a person is not concerned with watching DVD's/HDTV on the PC, and just using this monitor for general desltop and gaming duties, would it be safe to buy the "older" versions as opposed to the xxx7 models?

2707 will suck with it's high pixel pitch... same res as already high 2407 in a larger space.. probably .3!!!

There's only two Dells worth a damn IMO 3007 and 2007 both LGP S-IPS and true 8 bit color.

xtknight as usual with LCD tech is correct.

1907 - S-PVA

2007 - S-IPS

2407 - S-PVA

2707 - S-PVA

3007 - S-IPS

The 1907FP is actually the Samsung LTM190EX TN (6 bit) panel (user verified by service menu). But it is one of Samsung's newer ones so perhaps it's a bit better. It actually uses the same dithering method (some '9-bit' one IIRC) as their S-PVA they used in the 1905FP so the only thing inferior would be viewing angles (contrast may suffer too). And, response time would be better. But the viewing angles and contrast are major hits against it IMO.

For people who can't afford the 20WGX2 the Dell 2007WFP looks like a good alternative (if it's actually any cheaper):

NEC LCD20WGX2 vs. Dell 2007WFP - Image Quality

Select different things under "Etape 3" to see how they compare on different criteria.

Ah, so the 2007 is in fact a S-IPS? This is the new glass that everyone's been creaming about right? Saying how great the response times are and the viewing angles etc.??? If this is the case, then dang it, I might hold out on the 2005 or 2405, I am still deciding tonight whether or not to just go ahead and buy a 2405...still have time.

*Edit: Anyone know if the new dell's come with the polished glass surfaces?(ie: xbrite, clearbrite, etc..) Just like the NEC 20WGX2?

You mean the "I like glare" surface?

Yes, we're talking about those glossy/glare surfaces that reflect all the light that shines upon it. Do they come equipt with it? They NEC does, but it doesn't seem like the Dell's do in the pic.

You got me? I'm not sure why all monitors don't include it. Maybe the tech industry is boycotting HDCP...that'll be the day.

Straight from Dell tech support. The UltraSharp 2007WFP is not HDCP compliant. Just got through talking with them.

Perhaps you were talking to someone who was misinformed. I just finished talking to a Dell manager in sales who looked up the specs on the 2007FPW, and he said the 2007 is HDCP-compliant. Then again, perhaps I was speaking with someone who was misinformed. Supposedly though, all the XX07's have HDCP.

Haha, great, inconsistent information from the source. One of the most annoying things, yet understandable, new product, and non-techno savy workers.

As for the boycott, that'd be great, if they just work around HDCP and its arrogance, just my opinion.

And now 20% off until April 05th. I'm starting to wonder if the 2407 is ever going to appear.
Another update: it's been extended until April 12th!!! :disgust:

It's funny how this is the first time I've EVER heard the 2405FPW called a 6-bit panel. I'm glad someone has finally clarified that. You just convinced me to NOT pick one up even if they go below $799. Then again my never noticing it was 6-bit means I probably would have thought it 8-bit the whole time.

Also it's RIDICULOUSLY FRUSTRATING that they couldn't make the 2007fpw whatever-by-1080. This x1050 crap needs to stop. If they could make it x1080 it could actually display 1080p content just fine, but no, they gotta cut it 30 pixels short. wtf.

Are you SURE it's only 6-bit?

Why not pick it up? People have called it 8-bit because they have confused it with another advantage (high contrast/viewing angles) the PVAs have over the less expensive screens (TNs). Dithering effects are usually very subtle, and the latest kind doesn't result in any reduction of dynamic range. All the people who think it's 8-bit love it regardless.

Hey, does the 2007FPW's slight shortfall in blues mean it will have a 'warmer' color range by default?
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1945225,00.asp

xtknight: I'd rather get a 2007FPW since it has reviewed pretty well so far and can be used for general PC use as well as watching DVDs, and get a real LCD HDTV for TV use. This over getting a 2405FPW that's too small to be a real TV, too large to play most games fullscreen on my X800XL, large enough that DVDs fullscreen are less appealing, and of course it is more expensive.

My only concern is that a x1050 resolution display is a bit shallow these days. x1200 is the norm for everything from 1600x1200 to 1920x1200. Sure 1900x1440 is the proper 16:9 resolution, but the x1200 is important because it not only allows 1080p resolution but allows for full-resolution 1:1 pixel ratio reproduction of images, programs, and websites designed for 1600x1200 4:3 resolution.

It will have a colder picture (higher degrees Kelvin) in the first 10% or so of the colors according to that first graph. I'm guessing it would be the darker colors that would have the blue tone but I don't know what the X-axis is on that graph. The rest are real close to D65 (daylight 6500K white).

Good idea. The 2007WFP has even higher contrast than the 2405FPW I'm fairly sure and definitely wider viewing angles.
