I know that everyone probably has 2 or 3 printers at this point, but why pay for a new ink cartridge when you can just get another free printer?

Anyway, later this week, depending on when the shipment arrives, there will be a deal for a free Lexmark 1100 refurb printer. Here's the rough details of the deal:

$70 cost of printer at C4Sure
-$10 instant rebate from C4Sure - take b4 checkout!
-$50 mail-in rebate from Lexmark - they have confirmed that rebates will be OK for these refurb printers
-$10 rebate from Brands for Less
-Free Shipping from Brands for Less

The only thing that is undecided is whether the printer will be sold through Brands for Less, Cybershop or one of the other sites that ECS runs. If it is decided that the deal will be through a site that doesn't have free shipping, then maybe we'll have to pay shipping. Forutnately, all the players in this deal are known to come through on rebates, so it should be a good one. I'll post details as soon as I have them.

Also, this is a PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT for the interests of this and other forums only. PLEASE DO NOT CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! These products are not on the site yet, so they won't know what you're talking about and everyone will just get confused and pissed.

Take care,

Nitz

Nitz once again thanks for the info. Anyone have this printer? Is it decent? I'm looking to buy a printer for school (I'm sick of using my Roommate's BJC2000) and with my employee discount can get an HP DJ932C for about $75 after rebates.

Thanks, Nitz. I was just thinking about trying to find a "free" printer, since I don't have a printer at work, and am not in a place where I can easily get access (the hazards of working in a secured environment when one does not yet have sufficient clearance level). This is timed perfectly.

Guys, I bought a total of 4 of these printers figuring hey why not they are free. They really arent worth it. Sure they are free but these are the worst printers EVER. I mean awful. I cant tell you how many times they have jammed on me, how many times I print and find that the page I printed appears shrunken in the top corner, with the top half of the page blank (other than the minuture copy) and the bottom half filled with a cut off of the page. Really, these printers are not worth the hassle. Unless you only use it to print something like once or twice a year, skip it! It takes about 10 minutes to print a page in good quality and if you dont use good quality the draft setting looks like ass.

Pyr is right. In this case you will get just what you pay for -- nothing for nothing. About a year ago when it first became possible to get Lexmark printers for free, I went through a couple of the 1100's and they are absolutely worthless. In my case, Office Max eventually substituted a Z11 for the 1100 for all the trouble I had had. I now have three of the Z11's -- one on each main system for printing CD and floppy labels only -- and a spare, and so far they have been great for that purpose. I can't imagine that anyone would be satisfied with the 1100 -- which is why I suspect they have a warehouse full of "refurbished" printers.

I've heard a lot of good reviews out of the Z11s. They came out last summer because Lexmark "changed their design" for some reason... But the only difference I can find between the 1100 and the z11s is that the Z11s have 1200X1200dpi resolution where the 1100 is only 600X600dpi. That is really the only reason the 1100 was thrown in the warehouse....the newer models were so much clearer and a little faster so it made the 1100 obsolete. There were no reports of these printers jamming more often than any of the other models and they didn't have any driver issues in DOS or Windows-based OSes. Hope that makes it clear....................you can buy a Z11 and get clearer printouts or you can buy a 1100 and get a slower printer and eventually get all your money back.......maybe.

no the design of the 1100 and Z11 is quite different. The 1100s are crap and that is why they are being almost given away. The Z11... I dont know, but now that I have my estamp HP930c I really dont care to ever try a lexmark again

I also got a 1100 from OfficeMax, free of course. But I did not experience many trouble. Maybe it's just because I do not use it often (I have a laser at home). It's very slow, instead of 3 pages per minute, it does sth like 3 minutes per page. The printout is good for this price. A real good thing for this printer is it is networkable, that means it can be shared by multipal PCs. Some higher priced HP models cannot do that. What a shame.

Hey Nitz, I found a pretty good deal on a brand new hp color printer on cybershop at jandr. check out the hp apollo printer its only 37.50 after rebates. its $89, has a $40 mfgr rebate and then you get $12.50 rebate from cybershop. it's basically a 600 dpi, comes in a cool color.

CrazyJake20: you posted in a thread where people are even considering buying the worst printer in the world, the 1100. Maybe the apollo is slow, but it cant be slower than the 1100. Lets not try to talk them out of *anything* that could be better ok?

I mean....Wow that is an amazing deal for the Apollo. I give it the highest recommendation. It's the best printer in the world. None can surpass it. You would be absolutely CRAZY to pass that deal up. Oops, got to go. I'm late to Printer Worshiping hour at the famous Apollo Theatre. Goodbye and Praise be to Apollo. Long Live the King!

Well concerning the speed, I looked at the specs. the hp is actually a lot faster than the lexmark, its got

lexmark
1.5ppm color, 3.5ppm black
hp apollo
3.0ppm color, 6.0ppm black

I thought it was a decent deal. Let me know if you have something better. I didn't buy it yet, but I want to buy one soon.

DrRBass: The specs can say whatever the hell they want, but that must be like draft mode or something, because it really doesnt print fast at all on best mode (hell it took me 2 hours once to print out a 10 page paper in best quality... thats crap). I know that it sounds like a great deal, getting a printer for free and all, but in this case you really do get what you pay for. Or maybe less, since it is so troublesome. the paper feed was NEVER straight the entire time I used this printer. Even hand guiding it it would still somehow turn out slightly crooked. how awful.

aka - there is no rebate at BrandsForLess right now. There is a rebate at http://www.cybershop.com and the way that works is that when you shop through cybershop, you can come back after the purchase and fill out a rebate form and get a check mailed to you. I've got a page I put together which explains all of the deals from ECS (E-Commerce Solutions), the company which owns BrandsForLess, Cybershop and a bunch of other sites. It's at http://www.neumannfamily.org/ecs

The Lexmark 1100 is not a very good printer, in my opinion. It's very slow and has terrible color output. It also has papeer feeding problem.

only good for the cartridge, printer sucks.

Z11 is way "better" than 1100

I think I prefer the Canon BJC-6000 for $29 after rebate ($79 with $50 rebate) from Best Buy. It may be a good option for some people. Individual ink tanks vs. ink cartridge. Saves money, but then the other printer is free, no need to buy ink, just get a new printer each time *grin*.
