upconvert dvd up tp 1080p on 1080i monitor

I am using a 1080p upconvert dvd player connected to a 1080i plasma tv via HDMI.When i play a movie at 1080p there are times when the picture would dissappear.Is this a problem with my dvd player or tv or is it a bad idea sending a 1080p signal to a 1080i tv?

A 1080i set cannot display 1080p.
Your set is converting it to 1080i
Just set the dvd player to 1080i.

Could you tell us what model the TV is? It's probably a 720p or 768p model if it's advertised as 1080i.
