VGA adapter for $14.99 shipped

**UPDATE 08-25-06**
I got the item today. I tested it out for the PS2 & Gamecube. Let me tell you that the image quality is extremely poor, very grainy. On mine there are noticable vertical lines. In a word, IT SUCKS @SS. As others have mentioned this is not a true VGA adapter, but a line doubler. Richardito can attest to the poor performance for the Xbox.

I want to apologize if I have in anyway lead you to believe this is a decent product.

PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE NOT OPENED YOURS, RETURN IT ASAP. FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T RECEIVED IT YET, REFUSE SHIPMENT AND GET YOUR REFUND.

I have a Dell 20" LCD which supports composite video in. The image quality with the composite is vastly superior to the offering by this particular VGA adapter. True VGA should be able to surpass the composite in video quality. I've proven this to myself on my Dreamcast VGA adapter. Unfortunately, this product is a vastly inferior product.

Yeah, this one only output standard. It's nice for those who don't know what to do with their old CRT monitors.

I see ones for Hi-Def going for $60-$80 dollars. Ouch!

Any idea how this will look with a PS2 on a 20" Dell widescreen LCD? (through VGA)

I can't make out, from the description, if I can take output from a VGA and convert it into a standard TV signal.

It says VGA in and S-video out...so could I attach it to my video cards VGA out and plug the S-Video to my TV and have output the VGA to the TV?

I want to be able to watch the stuff I've recorded with my PVR150 and send it to my TV either with S-Video or Component video.

Can I used this device to do it?

Thanks

I don't know. I have a 20" Dell non-ws. I have a Dreamcast VGA adapter that works pretty well on it, sure beats composite video though.

Be careful with VGA game adapters, they don't always output a true HD signal. Some will just act as a line doubler, and give an image that will work on a VGA screen but not be as clear or sharp as a true 640-480 res.

I suspect this is a line doubler, since the GC connector is a for the standard not the digital one.

Hey, that works. I was using composite from my GameCube for awhile and it worked

My guest is that you're probably right. It's a $15 gamble so it's not that big a deal for me. As long as it displays better than standard TV, I'm happy.

For those wanting a true quality adapter may want to check this out. I've seen good reviews on it, but then again it's $65.

This one may be worse than a standard tv works, it's most likely an svideo to vga adapter with no form of deinterlacing.

For each system what you want are....
For all (minus dreamcast, and many PS2 games): VDigi Component to VGA transcoder + component cables
For Dreamcast: one of the VGA adapters since the DC natively supported VGA out
GameCube: real VGA cables run about $50
Xbox 360: Also has a VGA cable
Xbox: X2VGA
PS2: Blaze VGA Box can force progressive scan out in nearly all games

Even better, but honestly, who still plays Xbox with Xbox 360 out now? Well, I guess you and many other people, including me.

I have this adapter and it sucks for the XBox. There is terrible ghosting and very grainny picture quality. The screen is offset with a huge black frame around it and the screen is shifted to the right. After playing on my 19" CRT for around 15 minutes my eyes were watery from the strain of focusing on the screen. It works, though... you get a picture.

Richardito, that doesn't sound too good. Can you comment how it performs with Gamecube or PS2 (if you have them)?

This is actually my first Xbox. All the 360 has to offer is improved graphics, that's it. It starts at $300 and games are $50+. Half the people I know who have one have experienced heat-related problems (overheating and whatnot). The original Xbox, on the other hand, is cheap and reliable. Most games are available for under $20, many for $5 or less used at GameStop.com. There are hundreds of titles available. The graphics are still pretty good and it's had time to mature.

In addition, it can be modded easily. All you can really do with the 360 is flash the DVD drive's firmware for playing copied games. The original Xbox can be modified to both play burned games and to backup games to the hard drive. Personally, I'm going for a "media center" Xbox as kind of a replacement DVD/HTPC deal. It plays games and will play music/movies from my dinky home server computer. Modded Xbox + receiver ftw

Well that stinks

My brother ordered a projector and wants to run a VGA cable from the projector to his rack of components, which include a combo DVD/VHS player, GameCube, and Playstation. What kind of VGA adapter would you guys recommend picking up for that? I've seen VGA switchboxes, but he wants something quality.

I recommend this, along with the component cables for the system.
However, it won't work with all games. Most PS2 games won't work, and most 3rd party GameCube games won't work. (though 3rd party gamecube games sucked for the most part and the good ones generally do support progressive scan)

This has the same limitations as above, but is exclusively for gamecube, and may give slightly better picture quality. Note, you need a gamecube with a digital out port (the newer ones don't have it) for component or vga cables to work on the cube.

This can force most of your ps2 games to run in full vga resolution, though it's out of stock at this website. Find it somewhere else I guess.

Or if you don't want to go with these specific adapters, there's the option for a PC with dscaler + a quality video in card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16815116307) which won't give quality on par with the above vga adapters, but will be better than the many crappy adapters out there, will be compatible with all games, and may even have picture quality equal to a standard tv.

Go to the tutorials section, tons of stuff including the VGA mod. I'm actually having my friend do it. If you're interested in having someone else mod it, PM me and I'll give you my friend's info. I've had a number of requests, so I think I'm just going to put up a webpage with the mods he does along with his email so people can contact him directly.
