[Update 1/6/2017]
The procedure was done a week ago @ 9am. I was told to sleep immediately for 3-5 hours. I did just that. By that very evening, I was able to see already. It's surreal looking at the digital clock with such clarity.

I have several concerns:

1. My left eye is tack-sharp @ 20/20 within hours after surgery. But my right eye is not. I'm concerned the procedure wasn't done correctly. At the 1-day check up, the doctor said it's too early to tell as it's healing and each eye heals differently. Well it's been a week since, and my right eye continues to lag behind. And I'm concerned it may not be due to healing because my right eye at close-up & arm's length distance is crystal clear.

2. My left eye is bit dimmer than right eye. If I alternate by blinking while staring an a screen, my left eye is noticeably 'dimmer' as if brightness was downed turn by -15 or so like on a monitor.

Tomorrow's is my 1-week checkup, will be mentioning these.

----------
Getting it done by Lasik Vision Institute- one of the many bigger 'franchises' in US. The actual surgeon is a Harvard med, for what it's worth. LVI was my second opinion. I saw LasikPlus first.

Both are quite professional with tons of experience. I even asked them, "both of you are all custom bladeless lasik, so what's the difference?" They just said, nothing much aside from experience of surgeons.

I'm getting a traditional LASIK. I do understand everyone can't avoid presbyopia as they age, but I'll never need glasses again for distance viewing at least.

It was $3,500~ for both eyes with a lifetime coverage. Then they gave us news of the December special which knocks $1,000 off. So $2,500 is the bill.

Any last words for me? Scare stories?

$2500 is a steal. Make sure you take that ambian and go to sleep right after the procedure, otherwise it's a bitch.

Also when you wake up, you're gonna want to check your phone and it's gonna be bright as hell so turn down the brightness and use night mode.

I got it done a few years back, I was just sick of wearing glasses, and best 3 grand I ever spent. So much more freedom without glasses especially when it comes to things like camping or going to a theme park etc. I'm super squeamish when it comes to eyes so it took me a lot of courage to get it done, but the actual procedure is super fast.

Do the drops as they tell you to. Be compliant.

That is the best advice I can give. I have loved having LASIK.

I had it done about 6 years ago. My vision is slightly worse than 20/20 now, but many times better than it was pre op. It was a great experience and I don't regret it at all. I do know someone who has had chronic dry eyes after their surgery, but they still recommend it.

had it done in 2011 at LasikPlus. Best money I have ever spent! Take something to put you to sleep right away when you get home. Makes the first few hrs a lot more bearable. Use the eye guards they give you when you sleep. You don't want to rub your eyes in your sleep!

How did glasses limit your freedom with camping and theme parks?
They've never presented me with any problems for those activities.

Getting water in them was always a pain in the ass. If you have nothing to wipe it with and end up smearing etc. Was just overall super annoying.

Or trying to go to a water park or beach without them and not seeing anything. It's not as bad if you have at least one friend who can see though but I've gone with friends who were all in the same boat as me, it was pretty much the blind leading the blind.

Another time I went on this giant swing/bungie jump thing, but you could not wear glasses for safety (might fall off and hit someone) so here I am on a 150 foot tower and I can't see a damn thing, not really as enjoyable as if I could actually see.

In general I just found glasses to be more limiting but especially in situations where you can get wet.

Ah, I guess it's different if you're one of those people that can't find your glasses without your glasses on.

My left eye is very near sighted and while I would like the correction, I would only consider it with the no cut Laser correction method. I am not a fan of the old style Lasik where they have to cut a small flap, but a lot of people have had it done, usually without issues. The full laser method is said to be much easier, safer and more accurate results.

Actually the all laser method still makes the same cuts as the older style LASIK, it is just the laser makes the cuts not the surgeon. It is considered better because the surgeon skill doesn't matter then, which means it is a more consistent process. A lot of the early horror stories with LASIK were due to surgeons who should have never touched a blade talent-wise. As far as the cuts made all laser LASIK makes the same deep cuts that they made when LASIK rolled out originally (which isn't bad per say- I had deep cut LASIK done).

If I was doing it today I would get Epi-LASIK. With Epi-LASIK the flap is so thin they can throw it away because it will heal back. That takes care of most the dry eye complications. The only issue with Epi-LASIK is it takes a VERY skilled surgeon to do it right, which means no place with the word "LASIK" in the business name will do it. You have to pay extra at a "real" doctor's office.

The company in that article states an 'over 99% success rate' of getting 20/20 vision. So what happens to that almost other 1%? How many have side effects among the entire 100%? And what's the percentage where something goes more wrong? Is it .01%? Smaller? Cause 1 in a 1,000 is way too much of a risk if so to me.

And what happens if Lasik goes well but later in life you have some loss of vision. Are you able to wear contacts to correct that or just glasses?
