It has Progressive Video, great for my 57" RP TV, and their progressive algorithm sounds like it would work really well (some players have had problems with progressive in the past). Also, it supports SACD, although from the Epinions review, it sounds like you have to use the analog 5.1 connections to get 5.1 on those types of discs. I kinda doubt that's true, but we shall see. The only thing I was not too happy about is that it doesn't offer the "+1" or "+3" features in other changers. Those give you a quick and easy way to pop in a one-time view DVD, like a rental. But, I will get over it. The main thing I am looking forward to doing is loading in all my Star Trek, ST-NG, ST-DS9, Stargate SG-1, X-Files, Friends, MASH, Cheers, and Frasier discs and having them available in a couple of button presses. And, the thing will only be a little over half full even with all that!!!

Yes it is true, you have to use analog outputs and feed it preferably to a receiver that doesn't redigitize analog inputs. Better yet it should be connected to an integrated amp or a preamp.

Discount code from original post is not working at this time. I will call them tomorrow (10/3) to see if they will reactivate it.

I've missed out on this deal and the one for the Denon 1804 receiver, because I delayed. Doh!

They did tell me (early on) that once they got these backorders taken care of, that they planned to drop the price back down to $342. However, I don't know if that is still in their plans or not...

On their main page, they have a scrolling graphic that states they are an authorized dealer.

And they told me as much on the phone.

If they are not, and are claiming to be, I imagine Sony would be all over them.

I have emailed them for clarification.

Updated original thread with Cousin's reply when I asked about their "authorized" status.

Also, found this today:

Goodguys.com is claiming to have these in stock, $360 shipped. ($399 minus automatic 10% off)

Be sure to select the free shipping option (defaults to expedited shipping, at $12.95)

Does anyone know if Goodguys actually has these in stock?

Goodguys.com is claiming to have these in stock, $360 shipped.

Cancelled my order with cousin's because delivery was 6-8 weeks "maybe". Thanks for the comment on Goodguys.....ordered on 10-7, shipped on 10-9 which was earlier then what they had said on the website by several days. I am kicking myself for not using the pricematch JandR gave me to Cousin's but their ratings have not been the best lately.

Updated original post with some bad news (email from Cousin's)... Sony is still jacking them around it appears.

I am going to order from GoodGuys. Their price of $360 shipped is not as good as what I was going to get from Cousin's, but with the way Sony is screwing around on these units (shipping them only to their "pet" dealers), who knows when Cousin's might actually get stock. I would have preferred to keep my order with Cousin's, but I guess my desire to get this unit finally surpassed my desire to save a little money.

In my case, it is only going to cost me another $17.99 to buy it from GoodGuys, so I guess that's not too bad.

Sorry to everyone that took part on this deal. If I had known that Sony was going to shut out Cousin's from being able to get these changers and ship them out, I would not have recommended the deal.

For those of you that are going to stick it out with Cousin's, please keep us posted on developments. I will keep updating the original post. Hopefully, we can bring some closure to this for everyone.

Long Rant:
The world of electronics is absolutely nuts and I know I am!
I had made up my mind last week that I just had to have this unit and watched and read posts everywhere.
Finally thought I had made my purchase through Crutchfield on a refurb. but since I had cancelled my credit cards the only way to get it shipped out on Friday was to wire the money through Western Union. The sales guy thought it would be about $12.
Pulled the cash out of the bank and went to the store, did the paperwork and the lady tells me it will be $37.
I almost went ahead and my better judgement stopped me since that would mean I was now spending what a new one would have cost.
Went home and spent a couple hours searching the web, every electronic store within 200 miles.
Checked all the national chain web sites, CC,BB,Sears...and then called all the local ones.
Nobody knew anything about this unit, but many still told me it was junk...LOL
Then on Saturday I had some electronic purchases to make anyway so I went to every CC,BB and HH Gregg store within a 20 mile radius.
I couldn't believe the price differences on the same units of the older model multi disks at the same stores.
Anyway I went to all the Circuit City store except one in my area and then today made a purchase of the Altec Lansing Speakers and went to pick them up...figured I would look at which multi disks they had and what the prices were.
They had two of the much older versions of the Sony's and then I noticed one on the top shelf with no shelf sticker, no info and no price.
I looked closer and lo and behold the holy grail.
I asked the salesman about it and he said yeah we have had that for a while. I said how much he looks in the computer and tells me they are $379 and they have two in stock.
I asked if he could hold it for me and he tells me not to worry they show 292 at the warehouse....Crazy! Hidden on the shelf, no mention on their website and no salesman I talked to even heard of this unit and one even said I was mistaken...That there was no progressive with SACD that would sell for under $600.
Anyway I did get it and I am very pleased so far, the picture quality is every bit as good as my Panny Rp56 was and the SACD is awesome.
Anyways for anyone who wants to get one and willing to pay the price according to one salesman they are supposed to have 292 at CC warehouse!
Sorry for the rant but there were two additional things I'm looking at and having the same kind of crazy experiences....Sattelite tv is a whole nother crazy mess...to get HDTV from DirectTv would cost me about $500-$600 to buy it as a new customer and they won't budge on it.
But....I can order a two room set-up with tivo, hdtv dish and get a free dvd player& HBO package for $49 and free shipping...activate the service then call back now as an existing customer I qualify for the HDTV package at the new promotional rate of $399.
So go figure? But hey who's complaining...justseems like somebody needs to get their acts together.
Also checked out the new HDTV cable service (Voom) which launched on Wednesday and Sears is the chosen retailer....Two sears stores, huge banners everywhere advertising the service big Mits set with the the Voom box next to it playing the same as all the other sets...Hmmm why no Voom?
Whoops we haven't got it hooked up right yet....Scary very scary asking people to shell out $750?
Crazy....vey Crazy....
Thanks for letting me vent if anybody got this far....
