I ordered through my company since we get a discount at CDW. I received 3 e-mails this morning asking to me to review my order for accuracy and completeness. The first two listed $59.70 ea., but the last listed $163.00 ea. I sent a message to our customer service rep asking to cancel if it was the higher price.

<< Sure you you want ULTRA stability, get an Intel 845D chipset that uses DDR rams.
Epox EPOX EP-4BDA, Asus P4B266 or Gigabyte GA-8IRXP

Or if you want something around $20 cheaper but just as good, get the SIS 645 chipset.
Epox EP-4SDA, ABIT SD7, P4S333, and MSI 645 Ultra.
The first three are highly recommended, I like the MSI cause of the RED PCB.

I, myself would get the 845D chipset cause stability is #1 priority.

Getting an Intel 850 chipset that uses Rambus is not recommended cause most people have trouble getting pass the ~115FSb mark.
And as you know, the purpose of getting the 1.6A is to OC the hell of of it, running at 140+++FSB.

Happy hunting.

Oh, this PLACE has it for $149+ ~$11 shipping making it $160 shipped as oppose to MW $157+$8= $165 shipped. It has a 5.1 resellerrating.
Call to make sure it has in stock.

$160 + New Egg's P4b266-C for $117 = $277 which still makes the deal a little interesting. The equivalanet AMD setup is over $300. I'm still mulling over the possibility of getting this witht he P4B266-C, anyone else doing it?

i think the deal is dead, just got a call minnutes ago from a csr who stated some crap about the price changing to $179 before my order was routed...at least he was nice about it though and offered it to me for $150, but i declined and just cancelled my order

oh well, good luck to the rest of ya...for your info i placed my order on sunday

on second glance at the site...the price was probably 179 not 79...websites usually give a disclaimer about typgraphical errors so you guys shouldn't go crap in your pants, arguing won't do much good

on the other hand you can get some pretty good deals at mwave if you do a mobo/cpu bundle...saves you some money and if you are in southern cal you can do pickup and save on shipping too...i think they have the ABIT BD7 for $120(pretty much matches the asus board)...and MSI 845 for $124(has raid and stuff but i don't trust msi as much as the two A-TEAM mobo makers)

just got the call of death from the CSR.... never ever offered it to me for $170, only the $206 price. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

Hi all,

I too got a call this morning and they give the me the same story (Disconntinue). So I cancel the oder. Remember I placed my order right before I post this theard (~2:30ET Monday morning). So, seems no one will get it.

I just update the Asus P4B266-C OEM to the thread title ($122 shipped from Newegg) and some Overclock Feature of this board has.

Got question. What you guys means by "Ferangis"?

My order was also canceled, gave me the same ol' bs. But I was wondering, what about the SiS 645 chipset? Most of the motherboards are relatively low priced, and the MSI Ultra SiS 645 mobo can be had for $92 including free shipping from newegg.com. It seems like a relatively cheap and decent board, IMO a better deal then the $122 Asus Mobo. Here are the specs ripped from newegg.coms site:

MSI SIS 645 Ultra (MS-6547 6547-010) P4 DDR 333 400MHz FSB SOCKET 478 ATX MOTHERBOARD - RETAIL ** FREE SHIPPING** 400 MHz FSB, Socket 478 for Intel Pentium 4 up to 2GHz. Ultra DMA 66/100, 3 PC200/266 DDR-DIMM Sockets up to 3GB. ATX Form Factor, 5 PCI, 1 CNR, AGP 4x, 6USB. D-Bracket, Live BIOS/Live Driver, DDR 333 compatible. Model#: 645 Ultra Special Free FedEx Saver Shipping

Heres a link to MSI's website with info on the board also:
MSI Ultra SiS 645
Its got 3 DIMMS (and I'm pretty sure that all 3 DIMMS can be filled with double sided memory) and comes with onboard sound if you need it.

Note: Mwave.com also has a bundle option for the MSI Ultra SiS 645 Mobo, and total, with shipping to NY is $245.85 (Including the 1.6A P4)

What about overclockability with this mobo? I think that the apeal of this deal was that you could OC to 2.2 Ghz for under $300, not so sure that MSI's mobo is stable and will OC well.

I've been using MSI for awhile, and am currently running their KT266A solution. Since it is supposed to support 333 DDR, theres no reason why you can't set the memory to 133mhz and go. Here's a snippet from a review over at Tbreak.com:

<<
Overclocking:
MSI provides with semi-decent overclocking features on the 645 Ultra. You have the option of adjusting the FSB speed between 100MHz and 200MHz in 1MHz increment as well as adjusting the CPU VCore between 1.725V and 1.85V but that's about it. There's no Voltage adjustment for AGP or RAM which we would've particularly liked to see as it might have helped us to get the board up an running in Ultra Mode.

Our 1.7GHz P4 is known to overclock real bad. The maximum we've ever been able to take it is 112MHz- not really something to be proud of. However, on the MSI 645 Ultra, we could only manage to take it as high as 104FSB and no amount of CPU voltage adjustments could change that. Part of the reason for such low overclocking could also be the DDR as it was already running at CAS 2.0 and 333MHz- some voltage tweaking might have helped.
Overclocking Summary & Score: 10/15
Although you do have a good selection of FSB speeds ranging between 100MHz to 200MHz and you can adjust CPU VCore as well, we feel that board should have had RAM Voltage tweaking as well as it could've helped boost the DDR333 to go a little further.
>>

Remember, this is using a NON-NORTHWOOD solution to overclock in this case. So take this snippet with a grain of salt. I would advise anyone to check around the mobo forums to see if anyone has this motherboard.

If you watch Star Trek you would know what a Ferangi is.
They are a race where their motivation in life is to PROFIT
Everything they do revolves around making profits. Hence the term Ferangi.

Aren't you enlighten now

FunkmasterT,

Here is a Bios set up part I ripped from the manual on page 77.

CPU Frequency Multiple (when CPU Speed is set to Manual)
This fiel is for unlocked procesors only. If your processor frequency multiple is locked, you cannot acces this field.

To answer your question, No.

kevman,

I overclock my 700e (FlipChip), and the help of MSI CPU converter board (FlipChip to Slot 1), to 980MHz simply by increase Front Side Bus (FSB) to 140 (default is 100). Thus, 140 FSB * 7 (Frequency Multiple) = 980MHz. I am using default voltage (1.65) and a $10 Golden Orb. for cooling.

Love the board very much and very reluctance to change!

Isn't it weird? A cdw customer service representative left two messages in my answering machine about the order. Finally I called back this afternoon, and he just verified my name, address and credit card information, but nothing about the price error you guys are talking about. Does that mean I am getting these $80 boards? I placed the order about 1pm yesterday.

I got the "call of death" this morning too, with an offer to sell at $160. I counter-offered, "If you eat the shipping," but the CSR said no.

I don't know of anybody to whom CDW is selling a $206 mobo for under $80. So much for this "hot deal." Move on, folks, nothing to see here.

I still got a 1.6A coming from Googlegear so I guess I'm still shopping for a hot deal on a motherboard.

I was looking at getting a Tualatin 1.26GHz 512k chip along with a motherboard and oc to 1.5GHz. This would cost about $315 incl ship and I would not have to upgrade my current case, memory or power supply...

If I could get a P4 1.6GHz 512k Northwood plus motherboard (previous post @ $245) plus memory (Crucial 256MB DDR @ $71) for $316 and could keep my current (ATX, 235watt) case I would go this route. So... does anyone know whether the MSI SIS 645 Ultra m'board can use a regular ATX power supply and of course, can it oc the chip to 2.2GHz?

Same here, call of death this morning.
Tell me that it is a pricing error, should be more than $200 then proceed to offer me to buy it at cost for $170
mwa ha ha, I say you must have been buying your stuff from seller like yourself with those at cost.
Good luck selling one.
Forget it folks, this deal is dead.
let's look for legit one from newegg or somewhere else.

If you check overclockers.com, out of the 2 ppl that entererd their OC, one was using a SiS 645 motherboard.
They had the processor set at 133mhz FSB x 16 to weight at what they said was 2133 (comes to 2128, but whos counting ) I'm guessing this person didn't really try to max their processor, and just set the FSB to 133mhz.

On the question of whether the SiS Ultra Mobo is compatible with the older gen of power supplies, I dont think it is (I'm pretty sure you're talking about the Asus model that has the 4pin connector along with the power supply). You could probably do one of two things, buy the Asus Mobo with the modified connections, which is about 30s more, or you can buy a new case and power supply combo which can run you around $60-$65 for a nice case at Newegg.com. What I would do is save up the 30 extra bucks, and upgrade to a new case and 300w power supply. If there is a Circuit City in your area and they have the 256MB PC2100 Centon ram in stock, you might be able to save the $30 off the ram and put it towards the case/power supply. And also, 235w really isn't alotta power (my system wasn't doing too good w/300w running 3HDS, AMD XP, DVD-Rom, and a CD-RW so I put in a 431w PS just to be safe).

So it could break down to this:
MSI SIS 645 Ultra Mobo + P4 1.6A Processor: ~$245 including shipping to NY
CircuitCity Centon 256MB PC2100 DDR : ~$48 including tax and shipping
Newegg.com EVERCASE E4252WEF25 w/ 300w Supply: $67 including shipping
Total: $360

or

Asus P4B266-C Mobo: $122
P4 1.6A Processor: ~$157
Crucial 256mb PC2100 DDR: ~$76 including tax (they tax me and I didn't even know they had a store in NY)
Total: $355

With the first option giving you a new case + psu, and the second option giving more reliable RAM w/ older case& psu.

BigJ thanks for laying out those options. The power supply thing confuses me. I'm running a BX board w/ a Celeron 400 oc'd to 500, 4 HD's, a DVD-Rom & a CD-RW. Never had a problem. The Northwood is a .13 micron chip & supposedly uses less power, so shouldn't this still be plenty?

Depending on how good your power supply is. For a P4 running at 2.2G, you are drawing about 70 W (47A @ 1.5 V) just for the CPU. I think the Celeron is about 20~30W...
