I received my 1.6a from googlegear today, it is a malaysia chip, using it right now at 145fsb 2320mhz it wouldnt post at 150 even at 1.7volts , but that may be the motherboard, it is running around 46c at 1.65v , 4114 in 3dmark2001 up from 3500 , very nice scores in sandra, beats all of the comparison systems except the 850chip mem bandwidth test, I have 2175mbps mem bandwidth 850/ddr gets 2450.

I have run 3dmark 2001 many times, and played some heavy Q3, both of those programs are good at crashing unstable overclocks, everything is looking good so far I would have liked to get 150mhz cpu fsb for 2.4ghz and memory at 150 for 300 ddr (I have DDR333 memory) but I am not going to worry about 80mhz on the cpu and 43mhz on the memory.

Is the 1.6a the new DANCING QUEEN I say YES!!

I'm running my P4S333 @ 150 FSB right now and 1.5V, completely stable, and I have a Microsoft USB mouse in it. Where was your chip made?

WheelsCSM what type of motherboard and memory are you using? I took the plunge and ordered the P4s333-M (microATX board with LAN card built in) and a Northwood 1.6A. I also purchased the 2 sticks of 256MB Kingmax PC2700 memory. I already have a 300watt microATX case for it. I'm hoping to get at least 2128mhz with it (FSB 133 at default voltage). I'm really hoping my cpu is like WheelsCSM's with low voltage overclocks. To me 2128mhz is an acceptable overclock. I don't think I'll have the balls to do the wire trick yet until someone else oes it first - hehe. But you never know. Either way I'll keep you all posted.

EDIT: I bought the stuff from GoogleGear.

Any reason not to get the P4S333PAWOL for $10 more? It seems to be the same as the P4S333 but with built-in LAN, like the "-M", version (only it isn't micro-atx). Link

Edit: Never mind, that PAWOL suffix is not a different product I think, and the nxgenstore.com website mistakenly lists it as having built-in LAN controller.

Figured this needed a bump and....

I placed my order(s) tonight!

P4 1.6a
ASUS P4B266-C
Enermax ATX Case w/300W PS & 3 fans
512MB Crucial PC2100
Lite-On 16X DVD
AIW Radeon 7500
SB Audigy Platinum
Floppy
Keyboard

I'll be reusing my Plextor 12/10/32A & the WD 100GB Hard Drive (from the Sam's deal a month or so ago). I'm on the fence about ordering the Logitech Z560's. The speaker price is unbeatable at $138 shipped.

Fry's LA Times Sunday has P4 1.6 with SOYO SY-P4S DRAGON ULTRA Motherboard for$229.00, and 256mb PC2100 $59.95. Prices subject to change after 2/26/02. Think I will snag it tommorow.
This motherboard looks good to me: http://www.soyousa.com/syp4sdragonu.html
Any good reason to pay more to get one of the ASUS boards?

Be careful, that may not be a Northwood. It would still be a good deal but not nearly as overclockable.

The CPU "has" to be Northwood, right? Soyo SY-P4S only has socket 478 interface. Can you use the older P4 with it?

Still wating on my Googlegear order!! It supposed to come in tomorrow (total of 8 days)!! I hate UPS. I have a question though. I will overclock using default voltage (133fsb x 16). But what do I do with the settings for the CPU/Memory Frequency ratio? Should I leave it at auto? I will be using Kingmax PC2700 memory in a P4S333-M. Thanks.

I used auto at 133 FSB with out a problem at all. I even got it up to 2.24 ghz, with a voltage at 1.6 without a problem.

Forgot man, I've been saying in every Gateway thread to forgot about the 1.6A.
Gateway have never had the 1.6A instock since the 1.6A first came out.
If you order one, prepare to wait a loooooong time for it.

Maybe so but I just ordered the 1.8A from Gateway for $178 shipped. Can't touch that at Mwave or Newegg, but just in case I used the trusty Amex Blue in case I need to PM later.

Jasonja...smart move IMHO...great price and if you hit 133 fsb I doubt you would see much difference between a 1.6 @2.4(150) vs 1.8 @2.4(133)fsb ...and price difference is so small
