The CPU "has" to be Northwood, right? Soyo SY-P4S only has socket 478 interface. Can you use the older P4 with it? >>


Nope, the old P4 processors will fit in a 478 motherboard. It's a Northwood iff it has 512KB cache instead of 256KB.

i just bought the 1.6a with the P4S333 motherboard and don't know what kind of memory to get. what would be better the pc2700 or the pc2100 with ecc or non ecc? what brand of memory should i get?

Crucial PC2100 DDR will get you upto 150FSB. Many people over OC forum using it or check out my Sig. for more.

Not Northwood, they said they don't even carry Northwood smaller than 2 gig. Oh well, might get it anyway can always take it back, within 14 days.

I did call them two days ago and because of thousand on order they don't know the ETA. And if they can not get it they will credit the coupon to whatever items you order with. Hope they do then my $70 printing module would costs me $20. Heh!

I just got an email from gateway that the 1.6A shipped, but the asherons call item can't be filled. Hopefully they don't take away my coupon and free shipping, else I'll be sending the whole order back on RMA.

Are these 1.6As going to be a rarity, like the FC-PGA 1.0 Mhz 100FSB. 'Cause if I do return, I would like to secure one elsewhere. My 566Cel at 850 kinda choaks on Wolfenstien with a GF3 Ti200, although never a problem with HL or CS at high res and details.

They won't take the coupon away, they'll just take SOME of it off according to the price of the product. I ordered 1800+, but didn't have Asheron's Call, so they charged me full price of 1800+ and then took off $43.xx (portion of the coupon).

Hopefully they come. A thousand isn't that much to a real vender. They'll probably get them in next week. As long as I don't get billed until shipment.

BTW, when did NEC buy Gateway. As one who worked for a VAR in the early '90s, I always thought NEC was over-priced and over-rated. Their market presence dropped accordingly and now they seemed to have come up with enough cash to buy Gateway. Way to go Nippon! Gateway may be gone in a few years if so and Dell will be even bigger.

Ingram Micro is the supplier for Necx, buy.com, computers4sure, etc...
I've been watching all the online vendors that get their stuff from Ingram and these guys have never ever had the 1.6A INSTOCK.

I read from someone that called up the CS at gateway and that person said there's about 4000 back-ordered on the 1.6A and no ETA.

As I was saying before, don't I haven't seen the 1.6A instock yet.
Just get the 1.6A at NewEgg for $139+7 shipping.

They probably saw how many back-orders they had and decides not to take the loss.
