Seems like a good deal to me. Although there were some other good ones out there when combined with the $50 rebate ATI was offering.

Be careful about choosing Radeon if you think you might move to Win2k or a dual boot setup.

Their Win2k drivers are still problematic, I believe. Their history of fixing driver problems in the past is pretty bad. So it isn't inevitable that they really will for W2k, which probably doesn't represent a huge portion of their sales.

Personally, I also worry that with the NV20/ X-Box effect, ATI may go the way of 3dfx. They aren't making much money as it is now, I believe.

Geforce2 GTS 32meg DDR cards can now be had for $165-170, if you choose a less name brand. The all perform the same - only things live TV video out, etc differ. eVGA has TV out for $169 on pricewatch.

It's what I'm not planning on getting when I read the DDR vs 133A mobo shootout reviews, on actual production and selling mobos.

Today, anyway. Might change my mind tomorrow

Real nice of you guys to point out the card basically sux when nobody has made claims of actually owning a Radeon. It would be real nice if you base your statements on facts and not something that you just got off a message board. The Radeon is and excellent performer and can lay the smack down on a GTS in 32bit high rez.

As for the statement of ATi going out of business, wishfull thinking on your part. Unlike 3DFX they actually release their cards and a last week they reported that they're making a profit. Alot from a company that's going the way of the dodo ha?

I don't think the Radeon is going to lay the "smack down" on the GTS in win2k anytime soon eh?

That's all they were try'en to say...

I actually own a Radeon(32DDR), so here's my 2 cents.

1. The drivers for this card blow.
2. The initial releases of Sacrifice and Giants had nasty issues w/ this card. The oni demo also has problems w/ it. I can't wait to buy tribes 2 and have it not work.
3. The bundled software (Ati multimedia center) is ok, but it will not play v2 vcds.
4. When this card works flawlessly w/ a program or game it rocks! The image quality is great(alice and Mechwarrior4 look awsome).

Seems like a great deal Maverick, I paid 220 for mine originally. Just be ready for some headaches.

I have owned both Geforce GTS 32MB and Radeon DDR 32MB. And I kept Radeon. Radeon is a more rounded card.

Radeon has
- Better 2D (sharper and richer colors at 1600 x 1200 on my 21 in)
- Better DVD
- Better 3D image quality
- Fast (or faster) 32 bit 3D

Geforce has
- Super fast 16bit 3D
- Better 3Dmark2000 score

I don't play games much. And I have not personally been able to tell much improvement on 3d speed since my old Geforce 1 SDR. It does not matter much to me if a card gives 100fps or 60fps, but 2d image quality matters a lot as I have to be able to read black letters on a grey back ground on this forum.

Therefore, I picked Radeon, and I like it, especially because I was able to get it for 3/4 of $100 (please don't ask me how).

I also have a Radeon 32 MB DDR, got it about a month ago. Also got an Elsa GTS Gladiac 32 MB at the same time (Hot Deals is killing my credit card) but never installed it. In my opinion, the Radeon is superb-beautiful 2D (unbelieveable how clear it is)and VG 3D. I tried it under Win2k for a few days and speed seemed good with latest beta drivers-but I blew Win2k off for other reasons (primarily I don't have enough memory in computer).

Go to video cards forum and read some of the messages, follow those links to get the latest beta drivers.

This is the best video card I've owned or installed, including various Nvida ones.

I, too, am somewhat concerned about drivers, but it does look like ATi really is changing their ways.

About Nvida killing ATi-thats BS. ATi is huge, does lots of OEM and business cards, and just signed a mega deal with Intel.

I have the retail version of this card (got in December for $133). $115 for OEM sounds like an excellent deal to me-far better card than the GEForce MX's that otherwise populate that pricerange.

You make a very good case for the Radeon. The truth is I'm torn between it and the lower end name Geforce2 GTS cards (not MX). (e.g. eVGA). Pricing is roungly 115-120 for the radeon, $165 for the Geforce2 GTS.

I'm also not a total FPS shooter hound. Some gaming. But I don't want huge amounts of drive hastle. ANd I am planning on converting over to Win2k on a dual boot system for the mid tower screamer I want to build when DDR mobos come out, and I can compare reviews and prices of them vs Via KT133A 266mhz SDRMA mobos.

It's the Win2k driver issue, and compatibility (in Win2k hopefull) with new games and other titles that come out which makes we skittish about Radeons. But for the driver issue I'd go your way.

Still haven't made up my mind. Still looking for info/input.

Win2k drivers are getting to be within 10% of Win9x's speeds, and ATI just announced that they have return to profitability last quarter, so your fears of them "going 3dfx's way" are unfounded, at least for now. Besides, they are the maker of Nintendo's Dolphin.

And Radeon is no doubt the more well-rounded card, with quality (2d and 3d) and quantity (fps), so if you don't game much, there really is no reason for you to get a Geforce, which has compatibility problems of its own.

Jigglypuff, the latest drivers for the Radeon has since fixed the Sacrifice and Giants problems not to mention that they can be solved with the older drivers. A forum like rage3d always has fixes. I have owned a Radeon that I paid about $230 but my computer burned down so $115 is a killer price for me. IMHO the Radeon is my favorite card to date. It's well rounded feaure set cannot be beat.

I recently purchased the Radeon and am very happy with it... I'm not doing too much gaming, more PhotoShop and so on. Only problem I had setting up was some issues with DirectX drivers, not the ATI ones.
Saw somewhere where ATI has just teamed up with Intel to do some mobo chipset development, so that may give them a boost, too.
I can't say if you are missing anything with the OEM version... the retail version came in a pretty box and had a driver CD, but that's about it...

I have a question. How long is the warranty on these OEM cards? I read at the Ati site the retail warranty is 5 years.

/edit/

Already got the answer from Newegg.com : one year warranty

I just wanted to say thanks to all who have been posting here (and in the topics as well). Many times i read the exact questions i would have posed and find the answers right below them...anandtech.com is da bomb....and can 'lay the smack down' on any tech forum out there...you guys are great!!!

Now I just need to find a reputable dealer w/ a good return policy and a price better than the $30 off 150 from buy.com...(159.95 - 30 = 129.95 + 5.48SH = 135.43) + 5 year warranty

Is there a way to tell the difference between the ddr and sdr version of this card. I have heard of people paying for the ddr and receiving the sdr. My ddr has just arrived and I want to make sure it is actually ddr!!!
