Do you need a hub or router to use this thing with a DSL Modem?

I wouldn't think so but then you would be restricted to a purely wireless network only.

An access point has to plug into your network somehow, usually a router or hub. Some routers have access points built in, which this does not.


A question, could you hook up the AP to the DSL/Cable modem with a crossover cable? I never thought about it before, but if that would work you could have the Modem damn near anywhere, and go totally wireless.


I already had a Linksys router when I bought my Wi-Fi setup, so I just plugged it in and it worked. Usually a no-brainer for just access, but if you are a security freak then you better do your research and buy one that suits you as far as that goes. D-Link JUST released a firmware upgrade that does 128bit WEP, and added Web management.

I got in on the PC card and the Access Point for $135. They charged me state sales tax though ($8)

Still for 135 shipped you can not beat it.

Ummmmm....my guess is Belkin....they do make their own stuff.

i'm pretty sure it's a rebadge from some other manufacturer. if i had to guess, it probably uses the intersic prism chipset; same found in dlink, smc, and many others. although performance can vary greatly.

Do you mean Intersil chipset? This is what this card has.....uses both 802.11b and ad-hoc for P2P. You may be right about rebadge....Dlink and Linksys also rebadge their 802.11b cards.

Has anybody gotten their order confirmation for this? I recieved my order acknowledgement email a few minutes after ordering, but I have yet to recieve my order confirmation email... I ordered this back on the 12th... has anybody recieved any status on their order? Or is Dell lagging as usual? I tried checking on my order status page and the order isn't even listed there, even after entering my customer # and my zip code. Anybody?

I ordered both the card and access point....not found....I called and they said the order was not in their system....all I got was an acknowledgement...no confirmation. The cards are back in stock....but oot the access point....I held a card in my cart...maybe the access points will come back in stock.
