Regularly $39.95 plus $6.95 s&h

There were some threads about this earlier but not much talk lately. Apparently some senior members of this board have used it and say it does work. I'm still debating on whether to bite or not so any testimonials would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I found a thread over at FW so I thought I'd try it too. In for 1 so we'll see how it works. Going to install it at my gf's house so she doesn't rack up huge cell bills.

Been using one for around two months now. Works great. Very clear reception. Only one issue so far is that there is the occasional number (like my wayward brother-in-law's cell phone) that it just won't connect to. We try to call him and get a fast busy signal. He tries to call us and there is no answer and eventually goes to voice mail. His voice mail message typically turns up a day later as a wave file attachment to an email from Magic Jack.

seen mixed review on this, some love it, some hate it. they don't offer a option to port your existing number over and you must also leave your pc on 24/7 for it to work as it draws power directly from a usb port.

the unit may be $30 but your electric bills will go way up.

Im in for one. I do consulting and this will come in handy. I will get a slim line phone and keep it in my bag. BTW, I keep 2 computers on year round plus i have my tv on a lot and a few other things and my electric bill is only about $80 a month. (unless it is summer). My old phone bill was $40 by itself.

"The jack is $40 and that includes your first year of free local and long distance and then it's $20 a year thereafter," Borislow said."

so i guess its cool for the first year. But you can get vonage for 10 a month and it works great.

Wish I would have seen this yesterday, would have picked up a couple more for that price.
Have been using this since July of 2007. After the Rocket crashed and burned.
Have had a few minor call quality problems. Not sure if it was the service or my internet connection that caused them. As they didn't seem to stay for long.
1 or 2 times I went to make calls there was an outage, average a couple hours each time.

For $3.92 per month for the first year of service, it is a DEAL.
And the following years are $1.66 per month, that's a STEAL.

I haven't had a normal phone line since 2005,
The Rocket $120.00 for 19 months
Magicjack $39.99 for 12 months free shipping when I bought mine.
$160.00 for 31 months = $5.33 per month.

Bellsouth $40. per month x 31 months = $1240, NOT including any type of long distance calls.

So yeah I will put up with a few minor problems here and there for that kind of savings.
But the problems I have had with the Rocket and MAgicjack are a LOT less than what I had with my last normal phone line.

I own one and I've bought for missionary friends oversees. I have teenage girls in my house (they don't have cell phones) and for almost NOTHING I've provided another line for them to use rather than them arguing about who gets the phone. Great deal!

I also have a LOT of friends who live overseas. Since this has UNLIMITED calling to US from ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD at no additional cost, it's perfect for them. They can plug it in anywhere they have high speed internet and call the US for free. And since it also comes with a US phone number (you choose the area of the country and the prefix), all their friends and relatives can call them the same as making any domestic call. Plus... in some countries, phone lines are monitored by the government... If two people have Magic Jacks overseas, they can call each other using these and it never touches the local phone system.

I would say for anyone who has friends or relatives overseas who need to call the US (or even businesses who do business with the US and want to call cheap) this is the best deal in the world!

It's also (as the consultant above said) an awesome way to carry your phone with you wherever you go. If you have this and even a little cell phone over the ear headset (with 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm adapter), you can turn anywhere you are with your laptop and broadband into a phone... or for that matter, if you are visiting a friend in another part of the country or world, you just plug this into their computer. Yes, cell phones are more convenient for that purpose, but just having the extra ability is a benefit, plus using a domestic cell phone overseas isn't exactly cheap.

Also, if people call you and leave messages, they (Magic Jack) send you an email with a sound file attached so you know that someone has called (and can listen immediately) without having to dial in or hook anything up.

Setup is simple, taking about 10 minutes total. The only negative (other than having to leave a computer on) that I've seen, is that if you use headphone and mic instead of plugging in a phone, it will tie up your sound card and you won't be able to play music and such. I don't believe this is the case with plugging in an actual phone in the RJ11 jack.

This is a good deal at full price. The sale price was just icing on the cake!

Um....10 bucks a month is $120 a year. And $Vonage is 14.99 a month anyway and that's only for 500 Minutes.

Not sure of the comparison there.

Anyway I bit so we'll see. I'll let you know about 1saleaday.com too.

So far its great for calling out. Calling in doesn't seem to work nor call forwarding. Doesn't seem to be anyone to call about the probs but we mostly were using it for outgoing anyway. For that I give it thumbs up so far.

Good. That's really all I'm looking for is for my gf to be able to call me without Verizon charging her 45 cents a minute(overage charge). Ouch. Only make that mistake once!

They have a tech support email to write to with problems.
Have you used the upgrade/magic fix to see that fixes the problems?

Magic Jack is awsome!

Used an old Shuttle p4 system just for Magic Jack.

Too bad I couldn't get a local number.

Did anyone receive their magic jack yet...

That website stinks.. They have been showing my order as shipped for since 4/3/08... Then yesterday they gave me a USPS tracking number. Does not look like the post office has received it for shipping yet....

Label/Receipt Number: 9101 8052 1390 7424 ***** ****
Status: Electronic Shipping Info Received

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on April 10, 2008 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

Hmmm, 5 days later... still nothing... Oh well, I'll wait till the 30'th... If still Nothing, I'll be contacting CC to reverse charges...

They should be telling people that they are going to take 3-4 weeks to deliver...

I had my MJ working with Vista 64.

MJ is picky about what programs it'll work with.
