Sorry for not updating the thread guys!

As theedge kindly notes down below:

"The 8300 now has a $200 rebate and there is a $100 coupon for 8300 over $899. I am ordering a system stacked as above (2.60/256MB) except with a CD-RW and it comes to $786 with tax... - $200 rebate = $586... lets the 2% rebate site a few more $$ saved."

Original post (DEAD deal)

Sounds warm if you're looking for DDR400 compatible, 800MHz FSB (only ~4% difference performance-wise from 875PE)
Also is HT compatible, unfortunately Dell is not offering this with the 2.4C, 2.6C, or 2.8C with 800MHz FSB at this time...

Read about the chipset here...

Thanks. I'm coming out to $729 for some reason...

ALSO: I have a personal 10% off coupon, as I'm sure a lot of you also have... It doesn't seem to be stackable with this publically available 10% promo. Any input on that?

Alright, to get the right pricing, go to Dell, click Small Biz, click Desktops, choose Dimension, and under 4600 choose 'Featured Systems'. The first one listed at $619 is the one to pick.

AFAIK the email coupons are not stackable with the reusable 'public' coupon that expires tonite. Pick one and use it!

Dual channel DDRAM is not a new type of RAM IT is normal (single channel) DDRAM pumped twice via the mobo

dell lists the fsb on these as 533 and the systems come with standard ata hard drives. it is quite likely thse boards will not do 800 fsb or come with onboard s-ata. just because the chipset supports it does not mean it is in the system. dell pulled something similar with the dimension 8200s, the fsb was crippled even though the chipset supported 1066 rdram. you are only getting the dual channel ddr ram as a benefit over dell's existing systems, just a heads up.

right on - you cannot fool in the bios as with overclocker boards.

BUT I think dual channel ddr is worth it since the PIV has this incredible bandwidth (of course 200 MHz would be better... )

You are correct! It seems Dell is using the 875P chipset for dual-DDR 400 and 800 MHz FSB in their Dimension 8300. Actually, a quick check on Dell's site confirms that the 4600 does indeed come with onboard Serial ATA (two 7-pin connectors.)

In the next 8 minutes (or 1 hour 8 minutes) you can also snag the following:

Small Business

Dell Dimension 8300 Series:
Pentium® 4 Processor at 2.60GHz with 800MHz front side bus (rev. C with HyperThreading?)

64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4 MX? Graphics Card with TV-Out (upgrade to Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB for $110)

Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
Dell® 2-button scroll mouse
Integrated Intel® PRO 10/100 Ethernet

Integrated 5.1 Channel Capable Audio
= $849.00

- $150 instant savings

875P is better...it has 'PAT' technology which 865PE doesn't have (makes me think of SNL!)

Wow nice price on the Radeon 9800 upgrade, only $110 - that's a no brainer!

How much better is this 9800 than the retail ATI Radeon 9700 Pro?

have any of you thought about buying this system and getting the 9800 then parting it out for profit? the processor goes for atleast 250 and the video card about 350-425 so that alone will recoup your costs... interesting time to exploit this comparative advantage...

edit: the $100 off isn't coming of for me at check out... what's going on?

The Radeon 9800 is NOT Pro, it's the TX version running at 325/325MHz, so it's a bit faster than 9700 Pro, but not that much. Definitely couldn't get more than $300 for it, more like $270.

I wish it used the old clamshell case, this new metal one looks kind of generic and cheap

Did the price go up? I'm getting $1,167 and that's with the 30GB hard drive and the 48x CD-RW.
