Ordered the 40x12x48 back on 10/9 and got an email from Dell today:

"We have reviewed your order. Although we had anticipated being able to ship
your order sooner, we are experiencing an unexpected delay. We will not be
able to ship your order until, on or before 10/18/2002. We apologize for
this inconvenience and are doing everything we can to get your order out to
you as quickly as possible.

Dell Computer Corporation"

Taking 9 days to ship a part that says "ships in 1-3 days" at their site is rediculous. This happens everytime I order from them.

Does this happen to anyone else who buys from Dell, or am I just unlucky?

Frankly I am just sick and tired of the ordering process (or lack thereof) that Dell has. I am just completely tired of their bull$hit and and their crappy inventory system. I think it's the sheer size of their company that is the ultimate downfall.

I'd rather get it from the egg. Free shipping via Fedex (I prefer Fedex anyway) as it is and their inventory system NEVER lies.

Note: I am not affiliated with Dell or Newegg in any manner....

edit: although I must say to be fair that I have had my fair experiences of Dell where I have gotten things faster than expected etc.., but I ALWAYS get things on time from Newegg, no BS.
