Best bet is to order from Dell, Manufacturer number MT8VDDT3264HDG265B1 works for sure. The same part is listed
for several Dell laptops so the price can vary for the same memory.

W00T! FINALLY GOT MINE!!!

Came in yesterday...oooh its soo pretty! The blue LEDs are really kickarse, especially the iBook-style pulsing sleep light. 15" screen is really nice, exceptionally bright and GREAT with DVD movies (watched some scenes from Ronin in fullscreen format yesterday...nice!) Its lighter and thinner than my older laptop. I ordered a 256mb sodimm from Crucial and I'm gonna try to figure out how to replace the HD since I have a nice 2.5" fluid-bearing 40gb Toshiba lying around. I'm also trying to figure out if I can add 'built-in' 802.11b/g.

Complaints:

Damn this thing is slow...boots slower than my Mobile Athlon 850 notebook (albeit that one has 384MB RAM.) Hopefully the RAM upgrade and a clean install on a new HD will solve this. Also noticed that the CPU only runs at 1.2GHz by default...even when plugged in. Its prolly designed this way to keep the fan from turning on, cuz DAMN that fan sure is loud! Also noticed that HP didn't install SP1...shame on you!

- My ZE4200 had SP1 installed by default. Also, the rebuild CDs has SP1 incorporated into them.
- You don't have to completely shut your laptop down each time. Just push the power button and let it "hibernate." Next time you need it, push the power button again and it will wake back up for you in about 25 seconds.

WARNING FOR HP LAPTOP BUYERS!!!!!!!!!!
Many HP laptops including this ze4100 have a potentially serious problem with the DC power connector.
The power socket on the laptop is a larger diameter than the power plug so the plug does not fit snugly in the socket. Thus, when you insert the power plug, you may tend to "wiggle" the plug a little which bends the pin back and forth slightly. But worse, during normal 115 VAC operation, you have to be very careful that part of the power plug that is exposed does not touch anything that would cause it to "wiggle" back and forth since this will also slightly bend the pin where it attaches to the motherboard. Tension on the power cable will cause the same problem. This causes the pin to eventually break at that motherboard connection spot, requiring a $300 motherboard replacement that is NOT COVERED under HP warranty!
My friend had this very problem with a similar HP laptop and found out it is pretty common.
The ze4100 I bought on this deal also has this problem.
So, BE VERY GENTLE with the power connector!

128 MB _will_ make it seem sluggish, but adding a 256 stick should make things zippy. And depending on your power settings, you can have it set to speedstep or not when on AC.

4200? Hmm, I have a 4100 (altho I did order it prob a month before you) Do you know what is different between the 2? And I'm pretty sure that by default (at least on mine), when you press the power button, it goes to "sleep" and not hibernate, altho you can certainly change your preferences to do that. Perhaps that is one difference between the 4100/4200. Oh yeah, I think SP1 was not installed by default on mine. Perhaps another difference.
