Many HP laptops including this ze4100 have a potentially serious problem with the DC power connector.
The power socket on the laptop is a larger diameter than the power plug so the plug does not fit snugly in the socket. Thus, when you insert the power plug, you may tend to "wiggle" the plug a little which bends the pin back and forth slightly. But worse, during normal 115 VAC operation, you have to be very careful that part of the power plug that is exposed does not touch anything that would cause it to "wiggle" back and forth since this will also slightly bend the pin where it attaches to the motherboard. Tension on the power cable will cause the same problem. This causes the pin to eventually break at that motherboard connection spot, requiring a $300 motherboard replacement that is NOT COVERED under HP warranty!
My friend had this very problem with a similar HP laptop and found out it is pretty common.
The ze4100 I bought on this deal also has this problem.
So, BE VERY GENTLE with the power connector!

That's a very interesting problem to be concern about. I wonder if you would have the same problem if you get a Docking Station.. or perhaps a "better" DC power connector..

The LCD on mine went out tonight..Just got off the net with HP's live support...They said I could send it directly to HP or give it back to the reseller's..it's going back to staples.
I told them when I recieved it it was rather loosely in the box..You could shake it and hear it move around This bites..my extra stick of ram is suppose to be delivered tomorrow

Well I just go a 'postcard' from the Staples Rebate center saying they were NOT giving me my $100 rebate because they did not receive the original UPC for the laptop! I thought Staples were going to take care of this! I included a copy of course and a copy of the HP rebate which requested the original. Now I have to call someone tommorow. This really sucks!

Well, I called Staples this morning on the rebate. The phone rep. asks for my name and address, looks it up, then says he is validating it, no problem, but no explanation? Smells like a semi-scam to me. Just another hoop for buyers to jump through.

Got an email from Staples saying the rebate got rejected, blah blah no UPC code, blah blah wrong post date. Called them up and since I'm a "Valued Staples Customer" they validated it.

Kinda sucks they made me call them after I took the time to write a letter explaining the entire situation to them. Maybe they are rejecting all of them!

I got the same email, and after calling customer service several times, they gave me the rebate number only to be led into voice mail hell. Called back customer service and this time they connected me to a real rebate person, and he continued to give me the run around about the postage date and the UPC, he finally just said "OK your rebate has been validated, It will show up in 4 to 6 weeks". After that I just said thank you and hung up...we'll see.

I got a rejection postcard the 9th of March, called the same day and got the above result. I received the rebate check a week later!

out of $250 in MIR i've gotten $150 so far, both from HP.. Staples still havent sent my $100.00 yet.. how long does it take ?

Staples sent my $100 rebate in 2 weeks . Now HP and Staples are talking about what to do with the $100 that they should give us with that second rebate .
Staples $250 in Coupons
Staples $100 for being late
Staples $100 P4 rebate
Staples $100 for Hp not honoring rebate
Hp Maxmize Saving $100
HP Celebrate $100 just showed up tonight

$420 after Tax for a P4 laptop with 15 SXGA screen

ICRS, call 1-800-3STAPLES and give them your info. I had to that to get my $100 credit for it being late and for them to get my rebate out. The CSR even said that my order showed $100 late credit but they never applied it to my credit card account. She was very nice, and sorry that they had messed up.

Dude,....not to brag or what not,..but I got all my rebates back,...and I think staples made a mistake, because I have received 2 - 150 dollar checks from them.
HP already sent me mine, and dudes, get this
for the HP Athlon 1500 processsor,

my final price was 170 dollars.

Dem biznatches at HP givin' me trouble with my rebates...I accidentally sent the packing slip instead of the confirmation email printout...and after correcting that NOW they're saying the label I sent from HP box was the wrong one (no way in hell--Staples took it fine and its the only label with multiple barcodes and serial number!)

That's the same exact label i sent to HP, and mine checks arrived w/o problems. You must of gotten a rookie CSR or maybe just an idiot all together. Plus the box only has 1 UPC label, so there's nothing to be sent by mistake.. keep us informed on how it goes, cause that really sucks BIG TIME..

BTW, i did receive my $100 MIR from staples and i was also received a store coupon good for $25.00 on my next purchase of $25 &up..
Maybe it was their April's fools .. but we all know who the real FOOOOOs are.. hehe

Laptop has been running like a champ. Been using it to crunch for Team AnAndtech for the Folding at home team, watch DVD's etc etc.
